Job summary

Colaska Inc. is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead project execution, cost control, scheduling, and contract administration on heavy civil construction in Alaska.

You will bridge field operations and project management, mentoring engineers and coordinating with owners, subcontractors, and vendors to deliver projects on time and within budget. The role offers development toward Assistant PM or PM, a strong safety culture, and comprehensive benefits, with a competitive compensation package

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and industry experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible heavy civil construction experience.
  • Experience supporting project management, cost control, scheduling, and contract administration.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and develop Project Engineers and entry-level employees.
  • Assist in training, coaching, and onboarding of project staff.
  • Identify training opportunities and support employee development initiatives.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and professional growth among project team members.

Job Summary

The Senior Project Engineer serves as a key member of the project management team and is responsible for overseeing project execution, cost control, contract administration, scheduling, and operational support on heavy civil construction projects. This position acts as a bridge between field operations and project management, requiring advanced technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple project priorities simultaneously.

The Senior Project Engineer independently manages critical project functions, supports financial performance, mentors developing Project Engineers, and works closely with owners, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to ensure successful project delivery. This position serves as a primary developmental role in preparation for advancement into an Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager position.

  • Compensation range of $110,000 to $120,000 (DOE) annually, plus discretionary annual bonus

Essential Duties

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Mentor and develop Project Engineers and entry-level employees.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Experience supporting project management, cost control, scheduling, and contract administration functions.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong understanding of project cost control and budgeting practices.
  • Working knowledge of construction scheduling principles.
  • Proficiency with:

  • OSHA 30 Certification.

  • Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL)
  • Construction Law/Claims Training.
