Job summary

COLASKA INC in Alaska is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator in Juneau to safely operate a diverse fleet of construction machines, including excavators, loaders, bulldozers, graders, rollers, and associated pumps and compressors.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, at least one year of related experience, and current union membership. You will travel within Southeast Alaska, work overtime including weekends, and comply with strict safety standards and PPE protocols.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current member of applicable Union.

Responsibilities

  • Operate power construction equipment, such as bulldozers, front-end loaders, backhoes, scrapers, motor graders, shovels, and derricks.
  • May also be responsible for running large pumps or air compressors.
  • Heavy equipment operators drive heavy construction equipment and control their attachments, such as buckets, swing booms, scrapers, and blades. They also control water and air output of pumps and compressors.
  • Heavy equipment operators should know basic maintenance and repair of the equipment they operate.
  • Operating engineers may be expected to perform equipment and materials inspections.
  • Must be able to understand specifications and instructions, both verbal and written.
  • Working with heavy-duty machinery requires knowledge of and strict adherence to safety regulations.
  • Wear all proper personal protective equipment.
  • Travel within Southeast Alaska communities may be required.
  • Must be able to work overtime, including Saturdays and Sundays. Typically, weekly work hours can meet or exceed 60 hours.

Job Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator manages the safe and efficient operation of multiple pieces of construction equipment. They are proficient in the use of a diverse range of equipment, including Excavators, Loaders, Dozers, Rollers, Graders, Skid Steers, and others as required.
