What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: The Project Engineer is responsible for all mechanical and electrical related issues in projects, supporting two paper machines, power and recovery, pulp, woodyard, recaust, bleaching, and sodium hypochlorite plant. Acts as a team member of various project teams where capital improvements have been identified. Serves as a coordinator or idea hub for improvement techniques and strategies. Understands and aligns business operations and Engineering to exceed customer expectations and meet business, cultural, financial, and operational goals. Actively participates in plant safety, housekeeping, and continuous improvement efforts.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Developing, designing, and estimating costs for electrical/mechanical installations or plant systems.
  • Managing capital projects to ensure timely and on-budget delivery.
  • Analyzing product or equipment specifications and performance requirements.
  • Assessing feasibility of designing new equipment or modifying existing facilities considering costs, space, and other factors.
  • Providing technical information on manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, and properties.
  • Directing and coordinating manufacturing or installation of machine improvements and plant systems.
  • Evaluating engineering test results for application to developments.
  • Collaborating with maintenance to troubleshoot machine problems.
  • Leading piping, structural steel, and civil design efforts.
  • Consulting with engineers and personnel to implement procedures, resolve malfunctions, and provide technical info.
  • Researching and analyzing design proposals and specifications.
  • Specifying system components and modifications to meet design and performance standards.
  • Researching, designing, evaluating, installing, operating, and maintaining mechanical products and systems.
  • Investigating equipment failures and recommending solutions.
  • Supporting mill and department goals in safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost, productivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Bio-Medical Engineering from an accredited university.

Registration: Professional Engineering and/or PMP registration is highly preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 10 years in engineering and project management, with 5+ years in Pulp and Paper industries.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Hargrove project execution procedures and standards.
  • Proficiency in complex project management and team leadership.
  • Understanding of all engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction processes.
  • Ability to manage client relationships, handle stress, and communicate effectively.
  • Skills in delegation, prioritization, leadership, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Excellent listening, verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods.
