Job Description

Senior Project Designer – Piping/Mechanical

Position Purpose: T. Baker Smith is seeking a Senior Project Designer to lead CAD technicians in designing onshore piping systems using advanced 2D and 3D modeling software. The role may also include project leadership responsibilities, ensuring project alignment from concept to completion, including coordination, delegation, QA/QC, and deliverable submission within schedule and budget.

Essential Functions

• Leads Technical Tasks on Projects: Review and analyze data, mentor junior staff, produce comprehensive project deliverables, ensure compliance with standards, and develop solutions to meet project scope.
• Collaborates with Project Team Members: Support and mentor team members, assist other departments, maintain effective communication, and take ownership of deliverables.
• Task, Quality, Schedule, and Budget Adherence: Maintain quality control, support project schedules, stay current on industry practices, and communicate resource needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop estimates, budgets, and schedules.
• Oversee documentation and resolve design challenges.
• Conduct quality checks and communicate project status.
• Maintain documentation and track progress.

Physical Requirements

Occasional standing, walking, sitting, manual dexterity, climbing stairs, lifting up to 50 pounds, and specific vision abilities.

Desired Qualifications

• Associates degree plus 15 years related experience or equivalent.
• 15+ years CAD experience in piping and mechanical fields.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, CadWorx, NavisWorks, etc.
• Strong understanding of P&IDs and equipment layout.
• Excellent communication skills.

Work Environment

Combination of office and outdoor work, exposure to environmental factors, occasional site visits, and possible overnight travel.

Hours of Work

Full-time, 40+ hours/week, with potential nights and weekends.
