Vosper Thornycroft Group is seeking a Senior Program Director, Engineering Services & Technical Programs in Washington, DC, hybrid role. You will define the strategic vision, grow the business, and manage capture and program activities within the Engineering Business Unit.

You will build and sustain relationships with government and maritime partners, lead proposals, and drive innovative solutions for maritime readiness. A DoD Secret clearance and travel readiness are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Operations Research or Business.
  • 12+ years of experience in Maritime Engineering, Fleet Sustainment, Technical Services, Maintenance, Logistics, Ship Repair, Program Management, or related defense disciplines.
  • Experience supporting maritime customers such as NAVSEA or its affiliated PEOs/PAEs, MSC, U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, shipyards, or commercial maritime organizations.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the strategic vision and growth roadmap for Engineering Services across Naval Acquisition Programs and related fleets.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with government customers, industry partners, OEMs, shipyards, and maritime stakeholders.
  • Lead pipeline development, capture planning, proposal development, and cross‑functional growth initiatives.
  • Monitor priorities, landscapes, and contract opportunities to identify new business.
  • Lead development of innovative engineering solutions to address customer requirements and readiness.
  • Support mergers, partnerships, and strategic initiatives expanding VTG's capabilities.
  • Collaborate with BD, capture, operations, and technical teams to drive growth.

Overview

VTG is seeking a Senior Program Director, Engineering Services & Technical Programs. This position will assist in defining and executing the strategic vision and growth roadmap for Engineering Services, including serving as a capture manager and/or program manager within the Engineering Business Unit. The Senior Program Director is responsible for identifying, qualifying, proposing, and executing new work supporting the Department of Navy as well as other maritime organizations as applicable.This is a hybrid role at our Washington, DC office.


What will you do?

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Growth & Strategic Operations


  • Define and execute the strategic vision and growth roadmap for Engineering Services by understanding maritime customer missions, emerging requirements, market trends, and business opportunities across Naval Acquisition Programs, including fleet sustainment, engineering, modernization, and readiness programs.

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with government customers, industry partners, OEMs, shipyards, and key maritime stakeholders through active participation in industry forums, conferences, and professional associations.

  • Lead or support pipeline development, opportunity qualification, capture planning, proposal development, and cross-functional growth initiatives to achieve revenue and business objectives.

  • Monitor customer priorities, competitive landscapes, acquisition strategies, and contract vehicle opportunities to identify and pursue new business opportunities.

  • Lead development of innovative engineering and technical solutions that leverage emerging technologies and industry best practices to address customer requirements and enhance maritime mission readiness.

  • Support mergers, partnerships, and strategic initiatives that expand VTG's maritime engineering, sustainment, logistics, and fleet readiness capabilities.

  • Collaborate with business development, capture, operational, and technical teams to strengthen VTG's market position and drive sustainable growth across the maritime sector.

  • Bachelor's Degree required (Engineerong, Operations Research or Business related field)

  • 12+ years of experience in Maritime Engineering, Fleet Sustainment, Technical Services, Maintenance, Logistics, Ship Repair, Program Management, or related defense industry disciplines.

  • Experience supporting maritime customers such as NAVSEA or its affiliated PEOs/PAEs, Military Sealift Command (MSC), U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, shipyards, or commercial maritime organizations.

  • Strong understanding of maritime operations, shipboard systems, maintenance planning, readiness requirements, and lifecycle sustainment principles.

  • Knowledge of the federal acquisition process, capture management, and proposal development including technical writing.

  • Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction and mission success.

  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal communication, and presentation skills.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, financial, and decision-making capabilities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience with Power BI, data analytics, maintenance management systems, or readiness reporting tools is desirable.

  • Must have active DOD Secret Clearance and ability to sustain one

  • Willingness to travel as required.


Preferred Skills:



  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Business, Program Management, Logistics or related field.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or Professional Engineer (PE)

  • Lean Six Sigma

  • Other related professional credentials


VTG’s estimated starting pay range is $185,000-$205,000 which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
