Qualifications

Sr. Professional Engineer (Water Department Plant Operations)

A Sr. Professional Engineer job is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department Plant Operations.

The Plant Operations division is responsible for operating and maintaining the Water Department’s facilities, which include five water treatment plants with a total capacity of 512 MGD, a 166 MGD wastewater treatment facility, and dozens of pump stations, lift stations, flow transfer stations, and meter stations.

The Senior Professional Engineer will lead the development and implementation of initiatives to improve water/wastewater treatment facilities, optimize treatment, and improve reliability. The Senior Professional Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and will work closely with operation and maintenance personnel to identify issues and develop solutions.

  • Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility (166 MGD) – Lead and manage in-house design of rehabilitation of odor control system at primary treatment, coordinate with procurement to advertise and receive bids, and oversee construction and commissioning of the project.
  • Mary’s Creek Water Reclamation Facility – Review plans and specifications for new, greenfield membrane bioreactor plant with modified 4-stage Bardenpho process for biological phosphorus and nitrogen removal. Support operations with treatment process modeling of the new plant.
  • North Holly Water Treatment Plant – Review operational procedures to troubleshoot overflow of an air gap manhole that receives basin drain flows and causes erosion at site. Identify ways to eliminate overflow and protect nearby levee from erosion.
  • Water Treatment Plants – Develop filter optimization plan including backwash optimization and filter performance optimization, and work with plant staff on implementation.
  • Distribution System – Support operations with hydraulic modeling of the distribution and collection system to identify impact of shutdowns, optimize water quality, and identify potential operational improvements

Role

  • Develop technical specifications to support procurement of new equipment to optimize treatment and improve reliability of facility operations and maintenance.
  • Develop in-house design for improvements at treatment plants and distribution facilities and oversee procurement, construction, and start-up.
  • Provide technical support to Plant Operations for improvement and optimization.
  • Coordinate and direct capital delivery projects during design and construction.
  • Eager to learn (or already knowledgeable) about asset management, including data collection and processing, in water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, etc.
  • Basic knowledge (or interested in learning) hydraulic modeling software such as InfoWater, InfoWorks, WaterGEMS, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of (or is interested in learning) treatment process modeling using GPS-X.
  • Basic knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Basic knowledge of (or is interested in learning) drafting software.
  • Basic knowledge of (or is interested in learning) ArcGIS mapping.
  • Understands (or is interested in learning) SCADA systems.
  • Experience as a supervisor or manager with direct reports.

Preferred

  • Working knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field and three years of professional civil engineering experience as a registered professional engineer, of which two years must be within or related to the area of assigned responsibility.
  • Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. If licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining registration as a Professional Engineer within the State of Texas within six months of employment.
  • Six (6) years’ experience in either development, design, or operation of water or wastewater systems.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm; Some evening/weekend work may be required as needed.
