Job description

About the Team

It’s an exciting time in technology, and that buzz is felt throughout PetSmart! We are continuing to grow at a faster pace and we want to continue to provide best-in-class experiences for pets and pet parents.

Our Technologyteam has 6 different departments: Information Security, Service Delivery, Business Enabling Systems, eCommerce & Marketing Technology, Data and Stores, Services & Supply Chain.

Whether it’s online or in our stores, the work that the IT team does is instrumental in PetSmart’s success. We have a strategic and actionable plan underway and are looking for associates who are just as excited about it as we are.

About the Location

Collaborative Work Environment: At PetSmart, teamwork and connection are core to how we thrive. This role is based at our Phoenix Home Office, with an expectation of working a minimum of four days in the office each week. In a standard work week, associates may work up to one remote flex day (with leader approval). Our hybrid approach is designed to foster strong collaboration while also supporting flexibility and individual success.

About the Job

The Senior Product Manager will lead the vision, strategy, roadmap, and execution for a strategically important area of PetSmart’s business. This role will be responsible for translating business strategy and customer needs into digital products, experiences, and capabilities that deliver meaningful value for pet parents and measurable outcomes for the business.

This role will operate across a complex and evolving area of the organization, identifying opportunities for innovation and growth, bringing structure to ambiguity, and creating a clear product strategy and roadmap that connects customer needs, business priorities, and technology capabilities.

The Senior Product Manager will serve as a key connector across business, product, technology, UX, data, operations, marketing, loyalty, finance, legal, customer experience, and other enterprise partners. Success requires a strategic product leader who can work independently, navigate ambiguity, influence without authority, and build strong relationships across the enterprise.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, relationship builder, customer advocate, and execution-oriented leader who can unite teams around a shared vision while translating that vision into actionable priorities and products that deliver measurable customer and business value.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Vision & Strategy
  • Define and champion the long-term product vision, strategy, and roadmap for an assigned business or customer experience area.
  • Translate PetSmart’s enterprise and business strategies into actionable product priorities and investment opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to drive customer engagement, loyalty, retention, revenue growth, operational efficiency, and improved pet parent experiences.
  • Serve as a product thought leader and strategic partner to business and technology leadership.
  • Bring clarity, structure, and momentum to complex business problems, emerging opportunities, and areas where product strategy is still evolving.
  • Connect individual initiatives and capabilities into a cohesive product strategy and customer experience.
Product Roadmap & Execution
  • Develop, prioritize, communicate, and manage a multi-year product roadmap aligned to customer needs and business objectives.
  • Balance customer value, business priorities, technical feasibility, operational requirements, dependencies, risk, and time-to-market.
  • Define clear KPIs, success metrics, and expected customer and business outcomes for product initiatives.
  • Partner with technology, architecture, data, UX, analytics, operations, and delivery teams to bring products and capabilities to market.
  • Translate business opportunities and customer needs into clear product requirements, outcomes, user stories, acceptance criteria, and delivery plans.
  • Manage products and capabilities through all stages of the lifecycle, including discovery, development, launch, optimization, maintenance, and scalability.
  • Continuously evaluate roadmap priorities based on performance, customer insights, business needs, dependencies, and changing market conditions.
Customer & Market Expertise
  • Develop a deep understanding of pet parent needs, behaviors, pain points, and expectations within the assigned product or experience area.
  • Leverage customer research, data, analytics, experimentation, and market insights to inform product strategy and decisions.
  • Partner with UX and research teams to identify customer problems, validate concepts, define experiences, and optimize customer journeys.
  • Stay current on relevant retail, ecommerce, digital, omnichannel, service, technology, and consumer trends.
  • Continuously evaluate the competitive landscape and identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation.
  • Advocate for the customer while balancing customer needs with business and operational objectives.
Enterprise Partnership & Influence
  • Build strong relationships across PetSmart to align business, product, and technology teams around shared priorities and outcomes.
  • Serve as a connector across business, product, technology, operations, merchandising, marketing, loyalty, finance, legal, customer service, and other relevant partners.
  • Facilitate decision‑making and alignment among stakeholders with differing priorities and perspectives.
  • Communicate product strategy, roadmap decisions, progress, risks, dependencies, and trade‑offs clearly and consistently.
  • Influence stakeholders at all levels through data‑driven recommendations, business cases, storytelling, and strong product leadership.
  • Partner with other Product Managers and Product Owners to manage dependencies, reduce duplication, and create cohesive customer experiences.
  • Establish shared understanding and accountability across teams from strategy through execution.
Growth, Innovation & Continuous Improvement
  • Identify new product opportunities, experiences, capabilities, partnerships, and business models that support PetSmart’s strategic objectives.
  • Develop business cases and strategic recommendations to support prioritization and investment decisions.
  • Use data and customer insights to validate hypotheses, measure impact, and identify future opportunities.
  • Identify experimentation, testing, and optimization opportunities across new and existing capabilities.
  • Understand technical and operational constraints and partner with teams to appropriately balance new capabilities with resiliency, scalability, and technical debt.
  • Promote continuous improvement, innovation, and customer‑centric decision‑making.
  • Challenge existing approaches when opportunities exist to simplify experiences, improve outcomes, or create greater enterprise value.
REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE
  • 7+ years of experience in Product Management, Product Ownership, Digital Strategy, or an equivalent discipline.
  • Proven experience defining product vision, strategy, roadmaps, and measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross‑functional initiatives spanning business and technology teams.
  • Experience taking broad business opportunities or ambiguous problem spaces and translating them into clear product strategies and actionable roadmaps.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to assess business value, customer impact, time‑to‑market, and trade‑offs.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and modern product delivery practices.
  • Experience with product discovery, lean requirements gathering, story mapping, and requirements or discovery workshops.
  • Ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, and create clarity in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Bias for action and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to move work forward.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong customer‑centric planning skills.
  • Collaborative spirit and demonstrated ability to build strong internal and external relationships.
