Job Summary

Activities include product design and development, defining technical solutions to abstract problems, defining methods and processes, design modeling, tooling design/fabrication, equipment design/fabrication, personnel management, design verification and validation, and documentation. Manage the day-to-day execution of reliability tasks by teams and team members through monitoring progress, providing technical direction, and problem-solving solutions. Design and develop innovative products, incorporating Design for Manufacturability and Assembly principles, managing the product design from concept to full production.

Description

This position will lead in the execution of development projects as part of a multi-functional project team. We anticipate hiring this role in March of 2025 to support upcoming projects.

Essential Functions

  1. Research, design and implement new products based on customer specifications.
  2. Develop product requirement specifications based on customer needs and applicable guidelines (industrial and government standards).
  3. Understand the end use of products, determine fitness-for-use of materials, and effectively develop specifications for new and derivative products.
  4. Specify and develop tests for product testing to determine acceptability of designs.
  5. Perform data analysis (statistical and practical) and develop action plans.
  6. Develop tooling and test equipment designs for product assembly and testing.
  7. Prepare and present plans and schedules as Technical Project Lead.
  8. Serve as technical leader and cross-functional team member for development projects, including task management, organizing technical meetings, leading reviews, documentation, and coordinating activities.
  9. Contribute to project plans that meet customer and internal milestones, specifications, and cost goals within budget.
  10. Communicate progress and decisions to customers, colleagues, and managers.
  11. Assist in improving systems for product development, SOPs, safety, quality, and training.
  12. Identify opportunities for productivity and quality improvements.
  13. Perform product/process analysis for cost reduction and quality enhancement.
  14. Research, design, and develop product assembly methods and production equipment.
  15. Create strategies that provide competitive advantages and profitability.
  16. Perform formal root cause analysis.
  17. Provide risk-based decision making using formal risk management tools.
  18. Support departments to ensure compliance with requirements.
  19. Follow company policies and procedures.

Requirements

Functional Knowledge

  • Good engineering techniques.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy.
  • Effective communication about technical subjects.
  • Knowledge of machining, assembly practices, tools, and fixturing; plastic and/or metal knowledge preferred.

Education, Experience, Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Catheter shaft design and development experience, preferably in the cardiovascular market.
  • 5+ years in the medical device industry, with at least 4 years in catheter shaft design.
  • Strategic focus in product and process development (preferred).
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with machining and assembly practices.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (preferably SolidWorks).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle stress, and be flexible.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Use of PPE when applicable.
