Job summary

Disney Consumer Products, Inc. is seeking a Product Designer, Hardlines, to create dynamic toys and packaging for Disney Pixar properties.

You will collaborate with licensees to extend Disney storytelling through action figures, vehicles, plush and roleplay, ensuring design excellence and timely approvals. This onsite Glendale, CA role is a 12-month project or IA assignment with potential for future opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent years of relevant design experience.
• 2 years of related experience designing toys, from concept through production.
• Solid knowledge in hardlines categories (raw materials, plastic, textiles, print, pattern, graphic composition, manufacturing).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong product design skills and software proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for product design and packaging development for Disney Pixar toys including action figures, vehicles, plush, and roleplay.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with Licensees and Vendors.
• Works with licensees in all creative aspects of product development.
• Handles product approvals including creative revisions and using OPA for approvals.
• Ensures product design excellence by making character and product corrections and creating new artwork.
• Applies knowledge of new trends and innovation in marketplace.
• Presents and sells ideas to management, cross-functional partners, and licensees.
• Coordinates with Manager on new projects and deadlines.
• Works directly with key content partners at Pixar Studios and manages product feedback for licensees.
• Limited domestic travel for onsite product approval with licensees and trade shows.

We create toys, plush, collectibles, and a wide range of merchandise that inspire children, adults and fans through Disney storytelling, innovation, and exceptional product design. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team leading the design, development, and execution of Disney Consumer Products.

OVERVIEW As a Product Designer, Hard lines, you will be responsible for creating dynamic products within core Disney Pixar properties, working with teams to extend existing business and generate new businesses. This role will work with licensees to design new and innovative products every season for action figures, vehicles, roleplay and plush that inspire children, adults and fans through Disney storytelling, innovation, and exceptional product design. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team, designing, developing, and executing Disney Consumer Products. This role will report directly to the Manger, Global Product Design, Hardlines Disney and Pixar and sit onsite in Glendale, CA. This role is a 12-month project hire (PH) or Internal Assignment (IA) position with no guarantee of permanent employment (length of role may change based on business needs).

• Responsible for product design and packaging development for Disney Pixar toys including action figures, vehicles, plush, and roleplay.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with Licensees and Vendors.
• Works with licensees in all creative aspects of product development.
• Handles product approvals including creative revisions, uploading and downloading in OPA (Online Product Approval software), detailed comments, and prioritizing approvals within allotted time.
• Ensures product design excellence by making character and product corrections, creating new artwork and making artistic contributions to new initiatives.
• Applies knowledge of new trends and innovation in marketplace.
• Formulates creative ideas and products to build business.
• Presents and sells ideas to management, cross-functional partners, and licensees.
• Coordinates with Manager on new projects and scheduled deadlines.
• Works directly with key content partners at Pixar Studios and manages product feedback for licensees.
• Limited domestic travel for onsite product approval with licensees and trade shows.
• Exhibits ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field (e.g. industrial design, toy design, fashion design) or equivalent years of relevant design experience
• 2 years of related experience designing toys, from concept through production.
• Solid knowledge in hardlines categories (raw materials, plastic, textiles, print, pattern, graphic composition, manufacturing)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong product design skills (e.g. 3D product design, technical design, sketching, creative application and manipulation of art, final mechanical art, fabric and trim identification)
• Strong computer software skills (e.g. MS Office, Photoshop, Illustrator)

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $95,500.00-$128,000.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
