Job summary

XL Specialized Trailers is seeking a Sr. Engineer Manager of Product Design to lead a team focused on the design and lifecycle support of heavy haul trailer platforms.

You will own architectures, drive improvements, and collaborate with Manufacturing, Warranty, Customer Service, and Sales on an on-site basis in Manchester, IA. The role emphasizes leadership with hands-on technical oversight, ensuring designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and compliant with FMVSS/DOT and internal standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience in heavy haul trailers, heavy equipment, or fabricated mobile equipment.
• Proven experience supporting products in production environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of product design engineers supporting production and in-market products.
• Own product architectures, standards, and design intent across heavy haul trailer platforms.
• Prioritize engineering work based on production needs, product improvements, cost-reduction initiatives, and field feedback.
• Oversee sustaining engineering, product changes, and platform evolution (non-NPD).
• Ensure engineering support for production, including rapid resolution of design, quality, and manufacturability issues.
