We’re looking for an experienced Senior Product Counsel to help shape the future of payments as a trusted advisor at the center of the banking industry.
Overall Purpose
As a member of our legal team, you will serve as the go-to subject matter expert advising the business on cutting-edge, innovative, and first-of-their-kind payment solutions. You’ll partner with Product, Compliance, Risk, Strategy, Marketing, Communications, and our banking partners to solve complex legal and regulatory issues across the full product life cycle.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as first-line legal counsel to the product team on all legal matters within the business unit
- Interpret and apply U.S. and international legal and regulatory frameworks covering payments, digital assets, blockchain, bank regulatory matters, and privacy, including the GENIUS Act, National Bank Act, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), OFAC/sanctions compliance, EFTA/Reg E, UCC, UDAAP/UDAP, GLBA/Reg P, and evolving stablecoin and digital asset regulations
- Guide business partners in launching, testing, and scaling innovative cross-border payment and digital asset solutions through commercially pragmatic, risk-calibrated legal guidance
- Advise on evolving stablecoin and digital asset regulations
- Support Product and Contracts teams in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements
- Partner with product, compliance, risk, and strategy teams to structure emerging payment, stablecoin, and blockchain solutions within evolving regulatory frameworks
- Draft, review, and approve public-facing disclosures, DISCLAIMERS, and terms of use
- Develop practical, innovation-enabling frameworks and guardrails for new products, corridors, settlement models, and payment rails
- Advise on cross-border and international payment regulatory considerations, including digital assets, consumer disclosures, sanctions compliance, and settlement frameworks
- Draft, review, and negotiate strategic partner, sales, and supplier agreements
- Act as department expert on specialized legal issues in contract negotiations, audits, litigation, and regulatory exams
- Assess legislative and regulatory developments impacting key product initiatives
- Manage and supervise outside counsel as needed; may supervise junior legal personnel
- Support corporate governance and enterprise risk management functions
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; admission to any State bar
- 8+ years of in-house or corporate counsel experience, with a strong background advising financial institutions on consumer financial services and privacy law compliance
- Significant expertise in AML, sanctions, data privacy, and consumer protection regulations (BSA, FinCEN, FATF, OFAC, GLBA, CCPA, GDPR, Reg E, CFPA/UDAAP, FTC Act)
- Demonstrated experience advising on emerging regulatory frameworks in payments, cross-border money movement, digital assets, blockchain, or related financial infrastructure
- Experience supporting first-to-market financial products in fast-evolving regulatory environments
- Strong business and product acumen; ability to balance innovation with regulatory risk
- Excellent communication, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Prior experience managing outside legal resources
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading crypto/digital asset licensing or registration efforts (US and/or international)
- Working knowledge of international law applicable to payments
- Experience with foreign-corridor digital asset, AML, and sanctions frameworks
- Experience with stablecoin issuance, tokenized deposits, blockchain-enabled payment systems, or crypto-native financial infrastructure
- Experience supporting cross-border payment products across multiple jurisdictions
- Familiarity with global regulatory approaches to digital assets and stablecoins
