Job summary

Ash Grove Cement, a CRH Company, is seeking a Sr. Process Engineer to optimize the cement manufacturing process from raw materials through finish milling.

You will analyze operations and implement improvements for fuel and electrical efficiency and higher production rates. Responsibilities include safety, training operators, PLC programming, data gathering, and providing technical support to maximize quality and cost efficiency across the plant.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • 6+ years of related process engineering experience.
  • Strong reading/writing in English and safety awareness.
  • Knowledge of pyro-processing, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and airflow.
  • Experience with PLC systems and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Analyze the cement production process – raw materials to finish milling – and implement changes for optimal operating conditions in terms of fuel efficiency, electrical efficiency, and production rate.
  • Demonstrate pyro-processing expertise in performing regular responsibilities.
  • Participate in the training of control room operators on the proper use of plant equipment.
  • Work closely with shift process teams to ensure mills and pyro lines are consistently operated at peak efficiency.
  • Perform programming of the plant’s programmable control systems and provide maintenance, documentation, and improvements for computerized process systems.
  • Perform performance testing and measurements on production equipment.
  • Maintain equipment performance records, including wear part life history.
  • Provide technical support to the Production Department in achieving its objectives of maximizing plant production of quality-controlled cement in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Optimize process areas by testing, data gathering, sampling, and the application of in-house expertise to provide progressive solutions to enable continual improvement in all aspects of the production process.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Summary

The Sr. Process Engineer performs duties pertaining to the entire cement manufacturing process. This position analyzes the process and suggests ways to improve operations.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 4‑year bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years experience in a similar or related position.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Proficient in English written, verbal communication, and listening skills.
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to perform, organize and prioritize work independently.
  • Knowledge of pyro‑processing, thermodynamics, heat transfer, airflow, and related principles.
  • Knowledge of PLC systems and instrumentation techniques and guidelines.
  • Ability to make sound independent judgments regularly.
  • Ability to work from general policies and objectives.
  • Ability to refer to supervisor when clarification or interpretation of the organizational policy is in question.
