Job summary

Ash Grove Cement Company seeks a seasoned engineer to optimize cement production from raw materials to finish milling, improving fuel and electrical efficiency and production rates. The role requires pyro-processing expertise and hands-on control system programming.

You will train operators, collaborate with shift teams to sustain peak efficiency, and drive continuous process improvements across production equipment and systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering.
  • 6+ years of experience in a similar or related position.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Knowledge of pyro-processing, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and related principles.
  • Knowledge of PLC systems and instrumentation guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Analyze the cement production process from raw materials to finish milling and optimize for fuel and electrical efficiency and production rate.
  • Demonstrates pyro-processing expertise in regular responsibilities.
  • Participate in training the control room operators on the proper use of plant equipment.
  • Collaborate with shift process teams to maintain peak efficiency of mills and pyro lines.
  • Program the plant's programmable control systems and maintain documentation and improvements for control systems.
  • Perform performance testing and measurements on production equipment.
  • Maintain equipment performance records, including wear part life history.
  • Provide technical support to the Production Department to maximize plant production of quality-controlled cement cost-effectively.
  • Optimize process areas by testing, data gathering, sampling, and applying in-house expertise for continual improvement.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Summary
What You'll Be Contributing
  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Analyzes the cement production process – raw materials to finish milling – and implements changes for optimal operating conditions in terms of fuel efficiency, electrical efficiency and production rate.
  • Demonstrates pyro-processing expertise in performing regular responsibilities.
  • Participates in the training of the control room operators on the proper ways of using plant equipment.
  • Works closely with shift process teams to ensure mills and pyro lines are consistently operated at peak efficiency.
  • Performs programming of the plant's programmable control systems and provides maintenance, documentation, and improvements for computerized process systems.
  • Performs performance testing and measurements on production equipment.
  • Maintains equipment performance records, including wear part life history.
  • Provides technical support to the Production Department in achieving its objectives of maximizing plant production of quality-controlled cement in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Optimizes process areas by testing, data gathering, sampling, and the application of in-house expertise to provide progressive solutions to enable continual improvement in all aspects of the production process.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
To Succeed In This Position, You Will Need
  • Minimum 4 year/Bachelors Degree in mechanical, chemical engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of 6 years experience in a similar or related position.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Proficient in English written, verbal communication, and listening skills
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to perform, organize and prioritize work independently
  • Knowledge of pyro-processing, thermodynamics, heat transfer, airflow, and related principles.
  • Knowledge of PLC systems and instrumentation techniques and guidelines.
  • Ability to make sound independent judgments regularly
  • Ability to work from general policies and objectives.
  • Ability to refer to supervisor when clarification or interpretation of the organizational policy is in question.
