Job summary

Clearwater Paper Corporation’s Cypress Bend facility seeks a senior process engineer to advance manufacturing reliability and efficiency. You will lead process improvements, analyze data, and mentor other engineers.

Responsibilities include evaluating complex conditions, leading root cause analysis, supporting capital projects, and maintaining technical procedures while ensuring safety and quality. The role offers a collaborative environment and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field is required.
• 5+ years of relevant technical, manufacturing, process, or practical experience.
• Proficient knowledge of PI System (Process Information System) or similar process data historian.
• Working knowledge of process improvement, root cause analysis, and problem-solving methodologies.
• Ability to analyze process and production data, troubleshoot process and equipment issues, and recommend practical solutions.

• Lead development and optimization of process flow, operating practices, quality attributes, and improvement strategies across assigned process areas.

What You Will Do

This role contributes to developing and continuously improving manufacturing processes, with a focus on safety, quality, cost, yield, waste reduction, and process reliability.

Technical Assistance

• Evaluate complex process conditions, emerging technologies, and operational challenges and recommend solutions that improve cost, production, quality, yield, and reliability
• Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex equipment and process issues, including conditions that affect process stability and long-term reliability
• Analyze complex operational and production data to identify trends, process variability, performance gaps, and opportunities for improvement
• Evaluate production strategies, shutdown requirements, and operating conditions and recommend changes that improve reliability, capacity, and operational efficiency
• Develop and maintain technical procedures, provide advanced technical training, and promote compliance with quality and operating requirements

Process Improvement

• Lead development and optimization of process flow, operating practices, quality attributes, and improvement strategies across assigned process areas
• Lead complex process trials and evaluations, interpret results, and determine recommendations for process, equipment, chemical, and consumable changes
• Lead significant process improvement initiatives and capital projects, including business justification, technical planning, implementation, startup, and performance validation
• Establish performance measures and evaluate implemented improvements to confirm sustainable results and identify opportunities for further optimization
• Provide technical input into long-term process, equipment, and technology strategies to improve capacity, reliability, cost, quality, and operational performance

Technical Guidance

• Provide technical mentoring and development support to engineers and other technical team members
• Lead cross-functional technical efforts during complex process trials, startups, shutdowns, and upset conditions
• Establish and share engineering practices, lessons learned, and technical standards that support consistent and sustainable process performance

WHAT QUALIFIES YOU

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in manufacturing and operational areas, including eye and hearing protection, hard hat, and steel-toed footwear
• Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, odors, temperature variations, and industrial conditions
• Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling as required by the role
• Extended periods of standing, walking, and working on concrete or uneven surfaces
• Climbing stairs, ladders, platforms, or elevated work areas as required by the role
