Job description

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Our team at Roche maintains a steadfast commitment to delivering diagnostic precision that informs critical clinical outcomes in pathology. We achieve this by championing scientific innovation to enhance patient wellness and by deploying cutting‑edge technologies that eliminate operational bottlenecks encountered by diagnostic laboratories on a daily basis. As a Technical Program Expert you will serve as the Digitization Lead, spearheading the transformation of data management into discoverable digital assets for the newly formed Digitization Center of Excellence (DCoE). In this highly visible hybrid role of product ownership, platform leadership, and data architecture you will develop a master plan that guides how the organization builds and uses its data, software, hardware, and networks for seamless product delivery. It connects business goals with technology tools in alignment with global initiatives and guidelines. Your daily impact involves solving complex technical and operational challenges to unify siloed imaging and data systems through partnering with local and global cross‑functional stakeholders. You will establish new capabilities, benchmark technical excellence, and unlock exponential value and operational efficiency for our scientific and business teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Vision & Roadmap Execution: Act as the Product Owner for the DCoE, translating business strategy into the Development technology portfolio and maintaining full accountability for the DCoE roadmap, prioritization, and value realization.
  • Technical Implementation & Innovation: Identify and solve unique technical challenges and data flow within the pathology lab portfolio, overseeing the integration of scanning operations with Image Viewers, file transfer and metadata/graph services into a robust end‑to‑end platform.
  • Governance & Stakeholder Management: Chair or co‑chair DCoE governance and operations forums, maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with cross‑functional leaders across Pathology, Roche Digital Technologies (RDT), Data Science, and Quality Assurance.
  • Operational Excellence & Quality: Establish and monitor continuous improvement initiatives and operational metrics to ensure quality, balancing schedule and budget to maximize business impact.
  • Program Scaling: Establish and scale the DCoE program, overseeing the transition from the Phase1 pilot into a stabilized, high‑throughput steady state, and eventually extending the architecture to additional global sites and functions.
  • Executive Representation: Regularly interact with executive management and the Steering Committee on the progress of the DCoE, which directly impacts larger organizational goals.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • You have a demonstrated ability to define how data is managed from collection (e.g., scanning and QC) through transformation, storage and consumption, setting the blueprint for how digital pathology data flows across the ecosystem.
  • You have a demonstrated level of understanding of how to manage data as a strategic resource, how it may be used in the development organization, including integration with automated workflows and AI/Analytics pipelines.
  • You have a demonstrated level of proficiency to engineer solutions for unique or unprecedented problems impacting the digital ecosystem and enterprise data architecture; comfortable working in ambiguous, evolving environments and balancing pragmatic delivery with long‑term DCoE architectural integrity.
