Job summary

Roche in Tucson, AZ seeks an Associate Project Leader for PHCS to manage high-complexity Companion Diagnostics (CDx) projects from start to Launch Decision. You will lead global CDx digital pathology teams, shaping product strategies and coordinating cross-functional efforts across regulatory, technical, and business domains.

The role requires a science/engineering degree with extensive IVD/CDx experience, strong leadership, and the ability to drive complex programs in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering or relevant field required.
  • Minimum 9 years of related work experience.
  • Minimum 6 years in Medical Diagnostics / CDx or IVD.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in a global, matrix environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide cross-functional leadership to global CDx digital pathology project teams from Start through Launch Decision.
  • Offer strategic insight into worldwide in vitro diagnostic and pharmaceutical markets and regulatory landscape.
  • Execute CDx assay and digital pathology project strategy aligned with LCT objectives.
  • Ensure smooth progression into later development stages through early planning and cross-functional engagement.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives and drive effective cross-functional collaboration within PHCS LCT.

The Position

Associate Project Leader PHCS - Tucson, AZ

The Opportunity

This person, as a member of the Personalized HealthCare Solutions (PHCS) LifeCycle Team (LCT), serves as the Project Leader for high complexity Companion Diagnostics (CDx) projects from Project Start through Launch Decision. They manage the collaboration with pharmaceutical partners, drive team discussions on product quality, functionality, and schedule, and continuously improve the CDx assay and digital pathology co-development process. They also support potential pharma partnering opportunities and contribute to CDx digital pathology recommendations during early negotiations.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
  • You will provide cross-functional leadership to global CDx digital pathology project teams from Project Start through Launch Decision.
  • You will provide strategic insight into worldwide in vitro diagnostic and pharmaceutical markets, including product development strategies, regulatory environment, technology sources, and global commercialization.
  • You will execute tailored CDx assay and digital pathology project strategy aligned with LCT objectives, addressing technical, regulatory, business, and operational needs.
  • You will ensure seamless transition into later stages of development through early planning, cross-functional involvement, and effective communication.
  • You will lead process improvement initiatives, motivate the project team, and drive optimal cross-functional collaborations within the PHCS LCT.
Who you are
  • You hold a Bachelor's Degree in science, engineering or relevant area of study and a minimum of 9 years related work experience.
  • You have a minimum of 6 years of related experience in the Medical Diagnostics industry.
  • You have a minimum of 6 years in IVD Assay development.
  • You have strong leadership skills in managing multidisciplinary teams in a global, matrix environment.
  • You have demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts, adapt to change, and drive results.
  • You have experience in managing complex projects with ambitious milestones in high-pressure circumstances.
  • You have familiarity with product changes in a regulated environment and understanding of Diagnostic Design Control processes preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • You hold an advanced degree in relevant area of study a minimum of 6 years related work experience.
  • You have experience with projects that required activity/milestone achievement to launch the product.
  • You have experience of challenging senior management in relation to budget/data/resources.
  • You have experience with external partner management.
  • You have experience with globally dispersed project teams.

Benefits

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Tucson, AZ is $123,500 - $223,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
