Northrop Grumman Space Sector is seeking a Sr. Principal Research Scientist – Level 4 located in Promontory, UT. You will be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one and leading solid rocket propellant research.

The role focuses on polymer research for solid rocket propellants, with responsibilities spanning development, testing, and production support. A 9/80 schedule applies, with every other Friday off.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in chemistry/chemical engineering or related field with required years of experience (8/6/4 depending on degree).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with solid rocket propellant development.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory testing techniques and polymer chemistry.
  • Programming knowledge: Python, MATLAB, or R.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new solid rocket propellants meeting ballistic, mechanical, and rheological requirements.
  • Conduct novel solid rocket propellant research.
  • Present data and recommendations to internal and external customers.
  • Provide production program support including failure investigations.
  • Write instructions and planning for production and testing of solid rocket propellant.
  • Review material and production specifications.
  • Coordinate and schedule work through multiple organizations.
