Senior Principal Pipeline Engineer

Position Description

The Senior Principal Pipeline Engineer manages medium to large, complex projects. They possess broad technical authority and hold responsibilities over a team of Pipeline Engineers and Designers, including task assignment and review. They may serve as the Lead Pipeline Engineer, overseeing all technical and scheduling aspects of assigned projects. Work is periodically reviewed by the Chief Pipeline Engineer to ensure objectives are met.

Essential Functions

• Assist in preparing project proposals.
• Lead pipeline engineering efforts on smaller to mid-size projects.
• Oversee pipeline engineering work products, including calculations, design, and specifications.
• Maintain a strong understanding of oil and gas pipeline design practices, project planning, cost control, and procurement procedures.
• Experience with detailed design of Gas or Liquids pipelines is preferred.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering staff.
• Develop engineering training materials.
• Coordinate between engineering teams, management, and clients.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, codes, and Gulf procedures.
• Prepare or review discipline project specifications.
• Review scope of work to ensure alignment with project specifications and proposals.
• Conduct quality control on engineering documents.
• Perform routing, ROW, and workspace selection, as well as construction technique studies and economic feasibility analyses, collaborating with field and third-party specialists.
• Be familiar with pipeline permitting requirements.

Addendum: Pipeline Engineering Department
Department Functions

Pipeline Engineering provides specialized design engineering services, including:

  • Pipeline equipment and piping system design
  • Calculations such as wall thickness, API 1102 for crossings, HDD design, and more
  • Studies including hydrotest plans, class location, HCA, stress analysis, HDD design
  • Site layouts, access roads, storage yards planning
  • Routing, ROW selection, FERC filings, MLV spacing and location, launcher and receiver design
  • Development of standards and specifications for various pipeline components
  • Preparation of construction drawings and schedules
Requirements
  • Typically 15+ years of pipeline engineering experience
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and regulations
  • Proficiency with engineering computer systems
  • Excellent communication skills
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • PE Certification preferred

Work Environment/Physical Demands
