Air Products is seeking a Sr Principal Mechanical Engineer to join Rotoflow in Bethlehem, PA or Houston, TX. You will apply turbomachinery design and rotordynamics expertise to support high‑speed rotating equipment and related systems across global projects.

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement with four in‑office days, collaboration with product owners, mechanical design tasks, and driving cost reductions while ensuring safety and reliability in demanding industrial environments.

Qualifications

• 10-15 years turbomachinery or rotating machinery design experience.
• Deep understanding of design principles including FEA, rotordynamics, bearing and seal technologies, and design for manufacturability.

Responsibilities

• Perform turbomachinery design analyses including FEA, rotordynamics, and hand calculations.
• Develop standardized deliverables with Product Owners and support project execution.
• Execute mechanical design tasks for awarded projects and aftermarket activities.
• Communicate with vendors on technical solutions and RCA.
• Collaborate with customers to ensure proper design and integration of equipment.
• Check and approve manufacturing drawings and assist bid estimates.
• Drive cost reductions and tool development with stakeholders.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Perform various turbomachinery design analyses including FEA (stress, deflection, and modal), hand calculations, and rotordynamics,
• Development of standardized product deliverables collaborating with Product Owners,
• Executing mechanical design tasks related to awarded projects and product development initiatives, support of aftermarket activities and engineering tasks,
• Communicate with vendors on technical solutions,
• Support root cause analyses (RCA) of equipment and field commissioning and startup activities executed by the Aftermarket Team,
• Drive engineering and material cost reductions and competitiveness across project and product offerings collaborating with stakeholders,
• Collaboration with customers to ensure proper design and integration of equipment into the process,
• Select components and materials for turbomachinery and systems,
• Perform safety and operability reviews,
• Collaborate with various subject areas to finalize equipment designs,
• Checking and approving manufacturing drawings,
• Support of bid estimate development,
• Collaborate with the Business Improvement Team to develop new and standardized design engineering tools and work processes for streamlining projects and product development,
• Challenge norms with alternate solutions rooted in engineering fundamentals,

• Programming skills: VB, C#, C+, Python, Matlab, Fortran or similar languages a plus,

Degree and Licensing Requirements

• Technical Degree: BS Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related degree.
• Advanced degree and focus on turbomachinery design, rotordynamics, fluid film bearings, seals, design for manufacturability, and/or manufacturing processes a plus.

Working Conditions

• This position is based at our headquarters in Bethlehem, PA, or Houston, TX.
• Hybrid work schedule with 4 days in‑office. Subject to change.
• Travel requirements: Minimal-under 10% for onsite customer support.
• Work environment: Indoors office setting at same site as testing lab and manufacturing floor.
