Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Corporation is offering a challenging and rewarding career as a Senior Principal Mechanical Drafting Designer within the Mission Systems Sector located at the Rolling Meadows, IL facility. The role will support the design and documentation of ruggedized electronic equipment for military applications, working with a multidisciplinary team in the Hardware Engineering organization.

Responsibilities
  • Design and draft mechanical components for ruggedized electronic equipment using CAD tools.
  • Create drawings, update documentation, and develop library parts.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers.
  • Support the design of parts for machining and adhere to ASME standards.
  • Mentor peers and provide constructive feedback on design work.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or MS degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and 4 additional years of experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical design and drafting.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as Siemens NX, ProEngineer Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and CATIA.
  • Experience designing parts for machining and extensive familiarity with ASME standards.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math with a minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design and drafting.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
  • Experience working with manufacturing, quality, or inspection teams.
  • Experience supporting aerospace or defense hardware development.
  • Proficiency with ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and ASME Y14.100 engineering drawing practices.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to support and mentor peers.
  • Working knowledge of materials, specifications, manufacturing processes, and design tools utilized for mechanical design of electronic assemblies (Siemens NX, Teamcenter, ProEngineer, AutoCAD).
Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $123,400.00 – $185,000.00. Eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives for senior positions. Benefits include health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company‑paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO).
