Role Summary

MetLife is seeking a Sr. Principal Engineer to support our focus on delivering impactful digital experiences aligned with the New Frontier Strategy. This role involves managing CRM and IVA capabilities using AI solutions to enhance customer and agent interactions. As a member of the US Digital leadership team, the position combines strategic oversight with hands-on technical leadership to modernize our technology platforms, ensuring they meet evolving business needs.

The role requires experience in solution architecture, active participation in implementation, and leading technical teams. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and supporting critical tech platforms, providing training, and working closely with stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead the technology and engineering vision for assigned products, collaborating with the engineering team to achieve outcomes.
2. Drive technology initiatives that enhance engineering foundations across people, processes, and technology.
3. Oversee architecture selection, software design, and operations, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards.
4. Manage team efforts in coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance of high-quality code.
5. Recruit and mentor talent with contemporary technology skills, establishing effective recruitment processes.
6. Design and implement CI/CD solutions to support Agile SDLC within a DevOps environment, focusing on scalability and delivery speed.
7. Partner with enterprise technology teams to achieve engineering outcomes.
8. Identify operational efficiencies for complex product portfolios.
9. Influence business with emerging technology trends and capabilities.
10. Mentor engineers, promote best practices, and facilitate talent development forums.
11. Lead end-to-end technology initiatives across multiple layers.
12. Design durable software solutions to address critical customer problems.
13. Stay updated on mobile/SaaS/PaaS trends, recommend best practices, and share learnings.
14. Resolve complex technical problems and share key insights.
15. Provide technical leadership and serve as a role model for engineers pursuing technical careers.

Position Requirements

1. BS/MS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
2. 10+ years developing large-scale systems/software
3. 8+ years designing complex distributed systems or business applications
4. Strong system architecture experience and technical background
5. Proficiency in software engineering principles and cloud operations
6. Experience with Java, C#, Python, or similar languages
7. Experience with Salesforce and telephony products
8. Knowledge of data management and databases
9. Experience with Agile, SCRUM, and SDLC processes
10. Ability to operate across business and technical levels
11. Experience in financial services or cloud computing domains is highly desirable
12. Proven track record in digital transformation initiatives
13. Experience collaborating across multiple countries and stakeholders
