Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Sector in Chandler, AZ is hiring a Sr. Principal Engineer to lead advanced aerodynamics for launch vehicles. You will oversee design from concept to flight, develop 6DOF models, and coordinate wind tunnel testing in a highly technical environment.

Role is on-site with a 9/80 work schedule. The ideal candidate has strong leadership in aerodynamics, CFD experience, and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of professional experience OR Master’s with 6 years; PhD with 4 years considered.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with 6DOF aerodynamic model development.
• Experience with Python and Linux.
• Ability to obtain/maintain U.S. Government Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead advanced launch vehicle aerodynamic designs and support your team through all phases from conceptual analyses to integration and testing.
• Perform aerodynamic configuration trade studies on mission performance including stability, control, propulsion, and mass properties.
• Develop aerodynamic models for 6DOF launch vehicle simulations and uncertainty analyses.
• Design and support wind tunnel testing programs.
• Present findings to management and senior leadership through reviews, reports, proposals, and customer presentations.
• Plan staffing and manage schedule to support rocket vehicle design from concept to flight.
• Assign, monitor, and review team work for accuracy.
• Apply experience across subsonic to hypersonic flight regimes and legacy CFD tools.
• Lead wind tunnel testing and aeroelastic analyses; address venting analysis requirements.
