Job summary

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is seeking a senior Tooling Engineer to design and develop complex tools and machinery for manufacturing. You will work with plant teams to determine tooling requirements, create CAD models, and document specifications for tooling projects.

The role involves evaluating costs, materials, and resource needs, plus potential procurement oversight. A strong background in GD&T, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing process engineering is required.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree and 10-12 years' experience.
• Engineering degree required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Designs and develops complex tools and machinery used to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes.
• Reviews product design and build requirements to determine tooling concepts, design options, testing plans, and specifications.
• Develops designs for fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools, carts, racks, and other items to support production.
• Utilizes Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to create accurate, complete, and concise design models and documentation to fabricate tools.
• Estimates costs, resource requirements, and materials required for tools.
• May manage the sourcing, quoting, or procurement of purchased tools.

Job Summary

Develops and designs a variety of tools, machinery and equipment, such as shaping and cutting tools, dies, gauges and fixtures, for manufacturing and experimental purposes. Consults with plant and manufacturing personnel to determine tool specifications and requirements. Evaluates tools and machinery to improve quality and performance.

Essential Functions

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
• Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
• Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

Travel Requirements

Less than 25% travel likely.
