Job summary

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (OTS) in Red Lion, PA, is seeking a Sr Manufacturing Engineer to provide technical oversight for DoD ammunition production programs, driving automation, layout planning, and continuous improvement to ensure compliant, on-time delivery.

You will design, implement and review procedures, equipment, and tooling used in manufacturing, while leading projects, evaluating workflows, and coordinating with production teams to meet product specs.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree and 5-7 years' engineering experience required.
  • Engineering degree required; professional qualifications per job discipline.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Develops and improves manufacturing methods with knowledge of product design, materials, tooling and equipment.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, designing layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Determines parts, equipment, tools, and processes needed to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications.
  • Leads lean manufacturing initiatives; performs FMEA/Control Plans and RCCA as needed.
  • Communicates manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, or other information to facilitate production processes.

Job Summary

Provides technical oversight for DoD ammunition production programs through production support and continuous improvement, ensuring compliant, on-schedule delivery and resolving technical issues to maintain safety and meet contractual requirements. Responsible for designing, implementing and reviewing procedures, equipment, and tools involved in the manufacturing process. Duties include researching automation techniques, testing new systems for efficiency, and planning factory layouts to optimize production.

Essential Functions
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves industrial manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Determines the parts, equipment, tools, and processes needed to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Communicates manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, or other information to facilitate production processes.
  • Confers with vendors in order to determine specifications of products and arrange equipment, material purchase, and parts.
  • Evaluates products based on specifications and quality standards.

Required Qualifications
  • Required education and experience: Associate's Degree and 5-7 years' experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred education and experience: Bachelor\'s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Technology.
  • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Oral and written communication skills. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Problem-solving skills. Analytical thinking skills. Design expertise. Leadership skills.
  • CNC Lathe/milling experience.
  • CAD software ProE/SolidWorks/AutoCAD.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
  • This position is Safety-Sensitive.
Travel Requirements
  • Up to 25% travel likely.
