Job description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Come work at Amazon! We need people who want to join an ambitious program that continues to push the state of the art in space-based systems design.

We are hiring for an experienced engineer position to lead and own power system verification for our current and next generation spacecraft across the full satellite product lifecycle from design phase through prototyping, manufacturing, integration/assembly, launch, and on-orbit mission operations.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced engineer to lead design verification and test for the Kuiper satellite electrical power system. In this role you will be responsible for ensuring the satellite electrical power system meets all requirements through testing in different venues and levels of integration. This will include:

• \tWorking with system engineers to create verification cross reference matrices to define test coverage and execution across all power system test venues including hardware in the loop and production acceptance testing.

• \tUsing power system design requirements to develop test plans and procedures.

• \tDefine and develop test systems/venues necessary to meet verification goals of the power system, including development and test execution on hardware in the loop integrated test beds.

• \tDrive test execution for system level verification testing, and support teams working on production test execution.

• \tDrive test readiness reviews, and verification/qualification test results reviews with multiple cross-team leaders

• \tBe a technical leader/role model and mentor of other engineers; instilling best practices across the full development and test lifecycles.

If this sounds like the role for you, come make history with us!

A day in the life

In this role you will be a member of the satellite power systems team which oversees development and validation of the current and future generation satellite electrical power systems. As a Sr. Power Systems Test Engineer, you will own power system verification and test and will work with other power systems and development engineers to deliver a fully validated power system for the satellite. You will work to develop test plans for the satellite power system that provides full coverage for system requirements. You will function as a lead for power hardware-in-the-loop (PHITL) test beds, ensuring these venues are properly designed to provide verification of the satellite power system. You will also drive reviews for a given campaign of power system validation; pulling in cross-functional teams to review and reach alignment. You will also support production test venues through test definition and data reviews. Finally, as a senior engineer on the team, you will serve as a technical leader and role model, ensuring that the team upholds a high standard, and instilling best practices within the power systems engineering team.

About the team

You will work with a team of top-notch engineers and collaborate with multiple other spacecraft design and integration teams. You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. You'll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you'll be constantly looking for ways to improve system performance, and manage non-conformances into actionable items and procedural improvements. We want individuals who are ready for this challenge and want to reach beyond what is possible today.
