Job summary

The Keystone Distinction Group seeks an Electrical Power Design Engineer to advance our power system offerings from Stafford, TX (also near Alpharetta, GA). You will develop load studies, construction packages, and equipment specifications, while coordinating with vendors and field teams.

Requirements include a BE degree, 5+ years’ relevant experience, and PE licensure or progress toward it. Occasional travel is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and FE exam completed or in progress.
• Minimum 5+ years developing electrical construction packages suitable for PE stamping.
• Experience with NEC, IEEE 3000, API 500 preferred.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Excel; familiarity with ETAP/SKM/EasyPower.
• Ability to travel up to 25% and communicate clearly with teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of electrical load studies and power construction packages.
• Coordinate BOMs with vendors and pricing, and prepare specs.
• Perform field verifications and commissioning activities.
• Support startup, troubleshooting, and after-hours client responses.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure quality and budgets.

ELECTRICAL POWER DESIGN ENGINEER

General Description

Our company is a nationally recognized electrical power and control systems engineering firm and is seeking a qualified Electrical Power Design Engineer in Stafford, TX (Also open to someone near our Alpharetta, GA branch) to aid our growing electrical power offerings.

Key Experience & Skills

• 5+ years’ experience in the development of comprehensive electrical construction and specification packages suitable to be stamped by a Professional Engineer and submitted for authority plan check, comprised of at least the following:
  • Load studies
  • Single line diagrams
  • Plot plan & area/building detail diagrams
  • Lighting
  • Grounding
  • Conduit and cable schedules
  • Construction specifications
  • Equipment and installation details
  • Additional experience in the following drawings preferred:
    • Area classification drawings
    • Motor/breaker schematics and wiring diagrams
    • Lightning Protection
  • Knowledgeable of the requirements detailed in National Electrical Code (NEC), IEEE 3000 Series (formerly known as color books), and API 500 (preferred)
  • Adept at the use of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with power system modeling tools – ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower preferred
  • Experience with electrical power relay settings generation and implementation – GE Multilin and SEL preferred
  • Highly effective at written and verbal communications

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam Completion... Prefer: Professional Engineer License, or ability to complete licensure within 2 years preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of electrical power load studies
• Lead the development of comprehensive electrical power construction packages sufficient to be stamped by a Professional Engineer and submitted for authority plan check
• Lead the development of comprehensive electrical power specifications associated with company electrical power construction packages
• Lead the development of electrical power bills of material and coordinate with vendors for procured equipment pricing
• Execute field verification walkdowns, including as-building existing Electrical and E&I infrastructure
• Execute factory acceptance testing on electrical power equipment
• Execute start-up and commissioning, including electrical power and E&I troubleshooting as required
• Provide best possible response after hours support for internal/external clients as occurs
• Work with applicable Project Manager(s) to ensure overall quality of commercial deliverables, budget maintenance, etc. Keep the Project Manager(s) informed of technical progress, issues, need for change orders, etc.
• Assist Project Manager(s) in developing cost estimates and proposals for new project opportunities – providing technical expertise and guidance in applying cost to labor, expense, and procurement items
• Travel +/- 25% with willingness to travel via air
