True North Consultants, Inc. seeks an Electrical Power Design Engineer in Alpharetta, GA to lead the development of load studies, construction packages, and power specifications for PE-reviewed submittals.

The role requires 5 years of relevant experience, NEC/IEEE/API familiarity, and strong AutoCAD/Excel skills. Travel up to 25% and light field verification duties are included.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience in electrical construction and specification packages.
• Familiar with NEC, IEEE 3000 series, and API 500 (preferred).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient with AutoCAD and Excel; power system modeling tools helpful.
• Travel up to 25% by air as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of electrical power load studies.
• Lead and stamp electrical power construction packages for PE review.
• Create electrical power specifications for projects.
• Prepare BOMs and coordinate with vendors for pricing.
• Perform field verifications of electrical/E&I infrastructure.
• Conduct factory acceptance testing on power equipment.
• Support start-up and commissioning; troubleshoot power systems.
• Provide after-hours client support as needed.
• Collaborate with Project Managers on deliverables and cost estimates.
• Assist with proposals for new opportunities; provide technical guidance.

ELECTRICAL POWER DESIGN ENGINEER

General Description

Our company is a nationally recognized electrical power and control systems engineering firm and is seeking a qualified Electrical Power Design Engineer in Alpharetta, GA, to aid our growing electrical power offerings.

Key Experience & Skills

• 5 years’ experience in the development of comprehensive electrical construction and specification packages suitable to be stamped by a Professional Engineer and submitted for authority plan check, comprised of at least the following:
  • Load studies
  • Single line diagrams
  • Plot plan & area/building detail diagrams
  • Lighting
  • Grounding
  • Conduit and cable schedules
  • Construction specifications
  • Equipment and installation details
  • Additional experience in the following drawings preferred:
    • Area classification drawings
    • Motor/breaker schematics and wiring diagrams
    • Lightning Protection
  • Knowledgeable of the requirements detailed in National Electrical Code (NEC), IEEE 3000 Series (formerly known as color books), and API 500 (preferred)
  • Adept at the use of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with power system modeling tools – ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower preferred
  • Experience with electrical power relay settings generation and implementation – GE Multilin and SEL preferred
  • Highly effective at written and verbal communications

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam Completion

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of electrical power load studies
• Lead the development of comprehensive electrical power construction packages sufficient to be stamped by a Professional Engineer and submitted for authority plan check
• Lead the development of comprehensive electrical power specifications associated with company electrical power construction packages
• Lead the development of electrical power bills of material and coordinate with vendors for procured equipment pricing
• Execute field verification walkdowns, including as-building existing Electrical and E&I infrastructure
• Execute factory acceptance testing on electrical power equipment
• Execute start-up and commissioning, including electrical power and E&I troubleshooting as required
• Provide best possible response after hours support for internal/external clients as occurs
• Work with applicable Project Manager(s) to ensure overall quality of commercial deliverables, budget maintenance, etc. Keep the Project Manager(s) informed of technical progress, issues, need for change orders, etc.
• Assist Project Manager(s) in developing cost estimates and proposals for new project opportunities – providing technical expertise and guidance in applying cost to labor, expense, and procurement items
• Travel +/- 25% with willingness to travel via air
