Job summary

Tom Trese Networking LLC is seeking an Electrical Power Design Engineer in Stafford, TX (near Alpharetta, GA branch) to lead load studies, develop PE-ready construction packages, and drive electrical specifications for power projects.

The role requires 5+ years in electrical design, NEC/IEEE standards knowledge, AutoCAD proficiency, and familiarity with ETAP/SKM/EasyPower and protection relays. Travel up to 25% and a strong communication skillset are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and FE exam completion.
• Professional Engineer license preferred or ability to obtain within 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of electrical power load studies.
• Lead the development of electrical power construction packages stamped by a PE and submitted for plan check.
• Lead development of electrical power specifications for construction packages.
• Lead electrical power BOMs and coordinate with vendors for pricing.
• Execute field verification walkdowns of Electrical and E&I infrastructure.
• Execute factory acceptance testing on electrical power equipment.
• Lead start-up and commissioning including E&I troubleshooting.
• Provide after-hours support for clients as needed.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure quality, budget, and progress.
• Assist in cost estimates and proposals with technical guidance.
• Travel up to ±25%.

ELECTRICAL POWER DESIGN ENGINEER

General Description

Our company is a nationally recognized electrical power and control systems engineering firm and is seeking a qualified Electrical Power Design Engineer in Stafford, TX (Also open to someone near our Alpharetta, GA branch) to aid our growing electrical power offerings.

Key Experience & Skills

• 5+ years' experience in the development of comprehensive electrical construction and specification packages suitable to be stamped by a Professional Engineer and submitted for authority plan check, comprised of at least the following:
  • Load studies
  • Single line diagrams
  • Plot plan & area/building detail diagrams
  • Lighting
  • Grounding
  • Conduit and cable schedules
  • Construction specifications
  • Equipment and installation details
  • Additional experience in the following drawings preferred:
    • Area classification drawings
    • Motor/breaker schematics and wiring diagrams
    • Lightning Protection
  • Knowledgeable of the requirements detailed in National Electrical Code (NEC), IEEE 3000 Series (formerly known as color books), and API 500 (preferred)
  • Adept at the use of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with power system modeling tools - ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower preferred
  • Experience with electrical power relay settings generation and implementation - GE Multilin and SEL preferred
  • Highly effective at written and verbal communications

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam Completion... Prefer: Professional Engineer License, or ability to complete licensure within 2 years preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of electrical power load studies
• Lead the development of comprehensive electrical power construction packages sufficient to be stamped by a Professional Engineer and submitted for authority plan check
• Lead the development of comprehensive electrical power specifications associated with company electrical power construction packages
• Lead the development of electrical power bills of material and coordinate with vendors for procured equipment pricing
• Execute field verification walkdowns, including as-building existing Electrical and E&I infrastructure
• Execute factory acceptance testing on electrical power equipment
• Execute start-up and commissioning, including electrical power and E&I troubleshooting as required
• Provide best possible response after hours support for internal/external clients as occurs
• Work with applicable Project Manager(s) to ensure overall quality of commercial deliverables, budget maintenance, etc. Keep the Project Manager(s) informed of technical progress, issues, need for change orders, etc.
• Assist Project Manager(s) in developing cost estimates and proposals for new project opportunities – providing technical expertise and guidance in applying cost to labor, expense, and procurement items
• Travel +/- 25% with willingness to travel via air
