Overview

Gates Hudson is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Portfolio Accountant to join our expanding accounting team. In this role, you will be responsible for the full-cycle accounting and financial reporting functions for a portfolio of multifamily properties located throughout the Metro DC area. The ideal candidate has strong general ledger experience, excels in month-end close processes, and is comfortable collaborating with property teams to ensure accurate, timely reporting.

Responsibilities

• Perform monthly bank reconciliations for assigned properties
• Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries as part of the monthly close
• Review and analyze general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness
• Collaborate with on-site teams and property managers to gather information, resolve discrepancies, and ensure timely close
• Review budgets, revenue, expenses, payroll entries, and invoices for accuracy and consistency
• Assist with financial statement preparation and variance analysis
• Support ad-hoc reporting and accounting projects as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
• 3+ years of experience in property management accounting preferred
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger, and month-end close processes
• Proficiency with Yardi or other industry-standard accounting systems
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, SUMIFs, etc.)
• Public accounting experience is a plus
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
