Job description

The Opportunity

Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process, and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

You will report to the Assistant Center Manager.

The Role

  1. Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, donor monitoring, and donor disconnect, in compliance with SOPs.
  2. Perform venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process, adhering to SOPs and FDA guidelines.
  3. Evaluate vein performance, identify potential issues, and make necessary adjustments to ensure donation efficiency, product quality, and donor safety.
  4. Educate new donors about therapeutic plasma products, screening processes, health tests, appointment systems, fees, policies, nutrition, and answer all questions professionally.
  5. Monitor donors for reactions, assist with reactions if needed, and notify staff accordingly.
  6. Use PDA to record incidents such as machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, and adverse events.
  7. Perform calibrations, verify maintenance, and troubleshoot equipment failures, creating incident documentation and managing equipment status.
  8. Oversee donor flow to ensure continuous operation, alerting supervisors to any issues.
  9. Provide guidance and technical training to staff as required.
  10. Collect arm or whole blood samples for testing.
  11. Accurately record donor data in the electronic management system per SOPs.
  12. Understand policies related to hyperimmune programs if applicable.
  13. Maintain a clean, efficient work environment, ensure supplies are stocked, and follow all HSE and OSHA policies, promoting safety and conducting routine audits.
  14. Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  15. May be cross-trained in other areas to meet operational needs.
  16. Bilingual skills may be required based on organizational needs.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Your Skills and Experience

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

  • Minimum 18 months experience in a medical or healthcare environment preferred or equivalent education and experience.
  • Specialized medical or phlebotomy training is preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to complete routine forms and communicate factual information.
  • Must see, speak with clients, and observe equipment operation.
  • Perform tasks while standing and walking up to 100% of the time.
  • Reach, bend, kneel, and have high manual dexterity.
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions.
  • Exposure to chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Wear PPE as required.
  • Work overtime and extended hours as needed.
