The Miriam Hospital, part of Brown University Health, is seeking a Patient RegistrationCoordinator to oversee registration staff in the Emergency Department. You will schedule, monitor, and assist to ensure accurate and timely patient registrations, and prepare monthly statistics for department use.
You will orient new admitting staff to the computer system and shift procedures, and act as a resource when the supervisor is absent.
Under the general direction of the Supervisor of Patient Registration, coordinates the work of Patient Registration Representatives through scheduling, monitoring, and assisting to ensure accurate and timely patient registrations in the Emergency Department. Prepares monthly statistical reports and coordinates various projects as needed. Orients new admitting department employees to the computer system and selected shift procedures. Acts as a resource in the absence of the Patient Registration Supervisor as needed. May participate in the performance and review of QC and maintenance records, providing recommendations as needed. May participate in the writing of laboratory procedures.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrated leadership skills to effectively coordinate activities with staff, able to prioritize and assign work to ensure timely completion. High school graduate or equivalent. Knowledge of medical terminology, third party insurance information and standard office computer applications.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years prior experience in patient registration or third party billing in an automated medical billing environment. Excellent customer relations and organizational skills, knowledge of third party insurance requirements, and experience with computer systems and cash collections. Sitting for long periods of time at workstation requiring the continuous use of a computer and telephone. May have to do moderate walking, depending on location of the assignment. Ability to lift up to ten pounds.
