Job summary

Sligo Software Solutions is seeking a seasoned Oracle Database Administrator to join our on-site team in Schenectady, NY. The role emphasizes installation, upgrade, patching, performance tuning, and security of Oracle databases in a Unix/AIX environment.

You will mentor junior staff, manage RMAN backups, and coordinate with development and architec­ture teams to ensure reliable data services and BI integration. Extensive experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager and OBIEE is required.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA in an Oracle/AIX/Unix environment.
• 84 months of experience with Oracle RAC, Oracle ASM and Oracle Data Guard.
• 84 months of experience with RMAN backup and recovery, including RMAN deployment in enterprise environments.
• 84 months of experience installing/upgrading/patching/monitoring Oracle via OEM.
• 60 months of experience supporting OBIEE and Oracle BI Applications.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Database team with installation, configuration, hardening, backup validation and performance tuning.
• Install, upgrade and maintain Oracle databases on AIX, including backup and recovery.
• Plan storage and future storage requirements for database systems.
• Collaborate with application developers and system architects to meet business goals.
• Perform off-hours work for maintenance tasks and emergencies.
• Provide support for internal users and external data exchange partners.
• Conduct capacity planning, historical usage tracking and resource allocation tuning.
• Offer recommendations on technical architecture and Oracle security features (e.g., TDE, Wallet, remote authentication).
• Provide hands-on training and mentoring for other DBAs.
• Handle ITSM requests and incidents related to Oracle databases.

Assist the Database team with various ongoing tasks, including but not limited to database installation, configuration and hardening, backup validation, performance tuning and general database monitoring. Provide support to Application Development staff.

Duties

• Assist the Database team with various ongoing tasks, including but not limited to database installation, configuration and hardening, backup validation, performance tuning and general database monitoring, as well as recommend best practices and procedures;
• Install, upgrade and maintain Oracle databases on AIX, including backup and recovery;
• Allocating storage and planning future storage requirements for the database system;
• Work with teams of application programmers, system architects to create solutions to meet business goals;
• Perform off‑hours (evening or weekend work) as needed for emergency or maintenance tasks;
• Provide support for internal users and external data exchange partners;
• Perform optimization and tuning activities, including capacity planning, tracking historical usage, trending future resource needs, and modifying resource allocations as needed;
• Provides recommendations on technical architecture;
• Provides recommendations on Oracle Advance Security including TDE, Oracle Wallet and remote authentication;
• Provides hands‑on training and mentoring for other database administrative staff.
• Provide support to Application Development staff. Perform root cause analysis and recommend remediation for issues that arise.
• Handle Requests and Incidents submitted through ITSM tickets.

Mandatory Requirements

• Experience (12+ Years)
• Uses specialized software to store and organize data, which may include capacity planning, installation, configuration, database design, migration, performance monitoring, security and troubleshooting, as well as backup and data recovery.

Requirements

• This is an 100% Onsite.
• 84 months of experience as an Oracle DBA in AIX/Unix environment. This experience includes database implementations, upgrades, conversions, and consolidations; database compliance, security, and auditing, including Oracle Advanced Security, remote authentication, and Oracle Wallet configuration.
• 60 months of experience installing/maintaining/tuning databases that support OBIEE and Oracle Business Intelligence Application software.
• 84 months of experience with Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC), Oracle Automatic Storage Management (Oracle ASM) and Oracle Automatic Storage Management Cluster File System, Oracle Data Guard and Oracle Database Security.
• 84 months of experience with Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN). This experience includes: Backup and Repository Configuration & Maintenance as well as Implementation of RMAN Backup & Recovery using Commvault.
• 84 months of experience installing, upgrading, patching and using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) to monitor and analyze database issues and find solutions to correct the problems.
• 24 months of experience maintaining Oracle databases on AIX that support SAP Business Object Info View, and applications that use Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports.
