Job summary

Akkodis is seeking a Sr. Optical-Mechanical Engineering Manager in Marlborough, MA to lead the Mechanical Engineering group within the medical division.

You will mentor engineers and technicians, drive design for optical packaging, and oversee mechanical analysis while leveraging Zemax and SolidWorks for opto-mechanical integration. Qualifications

• Minimum of 15 years of experience in design and packaging of systems and devices.
• At least 10 years in medical device industry and 5 years leading/mentoring an engineering team; ISO 13485 knowledge required.
• Experience with mid-power laser-powered systems, disposable surgical fibers, and thermal management desirable.
• 5+ years leading the development of optical devices; knowledge of optical materials, coatings, geometric optics, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in tolerance analysis and engineering drawing methods.
• Knowledge of fabrication processes for optical sub-systems including laser-sintered metals.

Akkodis is seeking a Sr. Optical-Mechanical Engineering Manager for a direct hire job with a client in Marlborough, MA. You manage the Mechanical Engineering (ME) group within company medical division, while also serving as a technical lead and mentor to ME staff ranging from Engineering Technicians to Senior Engineers. This role is intended for an experienced mechanical engineer from the medical device industry with strong design skills in optical system packaging, precision adjustment mechanisms, incorporation of innovative manufacturing processes, and mechanical analysis.

Salary Range: $136,000/year to $188,000/year; The salary may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Sr. Optical-Mechanical Engineering Manager job responsibilities include:

• Provide technical guidance to minimize design iterations

Desired Qualifications

• Minimum of 15 years of experience in the design and packaging of systems and devices
• At least 10 years of medical device industry experience and 5 years of experience managing or leading an engineering team are required. ISO 13485 knowledge required.
• Experience with mid-power laser-powered systems, disposable surgical fibers, and thermal management is desirable
• At least 5 years of experience leading the development of optical devices, including knowledge of optical materials, coatings, basic geometric optics, and troubleshooting optical systems. Also, alignment of optics, tolerance, maintaining axis, vibration and shipping shock,
• Proficiency in SolidWorks ver. 2023, including opto-mechanical design, incorporation of Zemax designs into hardware, and thermal management
• Complete understanding of tolerance analysis and engineering drawing methods
• Comprehensive knowledge of fabrication processes for optical sub-systems, including emerging and innovative manufacturing techniques such as laser-sintered metals
