Job summary

Sompo is seeking a Senior Operations Analyst in the Operations team to strengthen controls, analyze trends, and drive improvements across insurance segments. Based in a multi-location HQ, the role partners with Operations, Underwriting, and Technology to enhance quality and efficiency.

The candidate will conduct reviews, QA activities, and data analyses, delivering concise reporting and actionable recommendations for risk mitigation and process optimization.

Qualifications

• Five+ years in insurance operations, underwriting support, QA, audit, or related operational function with knowledge of policy lifecycle, risk management, and QA methodologies.
• Strong analytical, root-cause analysis, problem-solving, organizational and communication skills; interpret data, identify trends and control gaps.
• Ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders without direct authority, collaborate across teams, drive process improvements.
• Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint; experience with QA, Power BI, BI tools, or AI-enabled tools is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, Data Analytics, or related field; CPCU/AINS/AU/ARM or similar preferred.

The Operations team supports consistent, effective processes and controls across insurance business segments. The team conducts operational reviews and quality audits, analyzes trends and risks, and partners with stakeholders to strengthen quality, efficiency, and the overall control environment.

What you’ll be doing

• Conduct operational reviews, quality audits, and control self-assessments across insurance business segments to evaluate adherence to policies and procedures and the effectiveness of internal controls.
• Gather, analyze, and interpret operational data from multiple reporting sources to identify trends, quantify risks, detect emerging issues, and support strategic decision-making.
• Document findings, perform root cause analysis, develop clear recommendations, and partner with stakeholders to drive corrective actions and issue remediation through closure.
• Build effective partnerships across Operations, Underwriting, Technology, and business units to strengthen the control environment and communicate findings through concise, actionable reporting.
• Identify, recommend, and lead cross-functional process and technology enhancements that improve operational quality, efficiency, risk management, and control effectiveness.
• Serve as a subject matter expert during User Acceptance Testing, validating new system functionality affecting submissions, policy administration, premium reconciliation, and related operational processes.

What You’ll Bring

• Five or more years of experience in insurance operations, underwriting support, quality assurance, audit, controls, or a related operational function, with working knowledge of insurance operations, policy lifecycle processes, risk management principles, and quality assurance methodologies.
• Strong analytical, root cause analysis, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends and control gaps, develop corrective action recommendations, manage competing priorities, and deliver accurate, high-quality work within deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders without direct authority, collaborate across multiple teams, exercise sound judgment, take ownership of outcomes and independently drive process improvements and cross-functional initiatives.
• Intermediate proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and SharePoint; experience serving as a subject matter expert for requirements development and system testing; experience with quality assurance work, Power BI, Strategy, similar business intelligence tools, or AI-enabled tools is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, Data Analytics, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered. Progress toward a professional designation such as CPCU, AINS, AU, ARM, or a similar certification is also preferred.

Salary Range

$70,000 – $95,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors, including the cost of living associated with your work location, qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
