Job summary

Lenovo in Whitsett, NC is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to lead design for manufacturability, develop new production processes, and collaborate across design, engineering, quality, and supply chain teams.

You will manage manufacturing process development, tooling, and test fixtures; work with contract manufacturers and suppliers on high-mix production; and prepare BOMs, control plans, and work instructions while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or related field is required.
  • 4+ years of experience in manufacturing, process development, or NPI.
  • Solid understanding of machining, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, and assembly.
  • Experience with contract manufacturers and suppliers in high-mix, low-to-mid-volume environments.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo) and PLM systems (Agile, Windchill).
  • Strong knowledge of DFM/DFA principles and ability to lead design reviews.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and root-cause analysis (5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA).
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.

Description and Requirements

  • Risk Management: Conduct design for manufacturability (DFM) reviews, evaluate risks, and implement mitigation strategies throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement activities, analyze production performance metrics, and provide technical support to the manufacturing floor.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 4 plus years of experience in manufacturing, process development, or new product introduction (NPI)
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, and assembly
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and suppliers in a high-mix, low- to mid-volume production environment
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) and engineering documentation systems (e.g., PLM tools like Agile, Windchill)
  • Strong knowledge of DFM/DFA principles and ability to lead design reviews with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and experience with root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA)
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related engineering or technical discipline
  • Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt)
  • Experience launching hardware products in a regulated industry (e.g., medical devices, automotive, aerospace, or consumer electronics)
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP)
  • Hands‑on experience supporting production line setups, validations (IQ/OQ/PQ), and ramp-ups
