Description
Leidos is seeking a Sr. Network Engineer to support large-scale operations on a high-profile DOD contract. The I3TS program provides enterprise-wide IT support to enable DTRA’s Information Management & Technology Directorate (ITD) to consolidate, modernize, and innovate IT services and mission capabilities for internal and external partners in CONUS and OCONUS locations.
The Sr. Network Engineer/Architect will support current infrastructure and new capabilities, responsible for requirements definition, feasibility studies, pilot projects, and implementation plans, as well as diagnosing outages, monitoring networks, infrastructure, and systems, and developing mitigation strategies.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate Tier I–III network operations engineering personnel to ensure effective troubleshooting efforts.
- Oversee real-time monitoring of global enterprise networks using DoD-approved tools (e.g., SolarWinds, NetOps, Splunk, ACAS).
- Develop and enforce operational procedures, incident response workflows, and escalation protocols.
- Act as the senior technical contact for major outages, network events, or cybersecurity incidents.
- Interface with mission partners, DISA, Joint Forces, and Combatant Commands on network status and issues.
- Ensure all network changes follow configuration management and DoD Change Advisory Board procedures.
- Prepare and deliver operational briefs, AARs, and executive summaries to senior leadership.
- Develop and coordinate the network operations team that:
- Plan and design secure network solutions to consolidate connectivity services.
- Design secure wide area connectivity supporting performance, security, and mission requirements.
- Provide secure access solutions leveraging wired and wireless technologies, with implementation and transition plans.
- Integrate capacity planning and scaling of network and security environments.
- Identify optimization strategies to meet capacity and performance standards.
- Develop strategies for legacy service paths to meet requirements while balancing security and sustainability.
- Support development of IP addressing schemes across IPv4 and IPv6 networks.
- Work with information assurance teams to ensure compliance with DoD standards and accreditation artifacts.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (preferred) with 8-12 years' experience or Master’s degree with 6-10 years of experience (additional applicable experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree).
- Network certification meeting or exceeding CCNA (comparable vendor certification accepted).
- Active DoD IAT Level II (Security+) certification or equivalent prior to start.
- Current DoD Secret clearance, ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
- Experience documenting logical or physical designs using drawing tools (e.g., Visio, PowerPoint, Gliffy, Cameo, MagicDraw).
- Experience in technical troubleshooting and site surveys.
- Experience planning or executing circuit migrations, network traffic, services, applications, or data transfers, or technology refreshes.
- Broad exposure to LAN, WAN, TCP/UDP, IPSec, VPN, Proxies, Routing (L2/L3), Firewalls.
- Experience with vendor technologies such as Cisco, Juniper, F5, Aruba, Palo Alto, Dell, Brocade, Fortinet.
- Experience designing and implementing medium to large network infrastructures and creating documentation.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills, including drafting SOPs and technical documentation.
- Ability to communicate with executive leadership about significant matters.
- Capability to present designs and plans for approval.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Cisco Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent.
- Experience with enterprise network management tools such as SolarWinds, MECM, Core Light, BMC Helix ITSM, JIRA.
- Hands-on experience with WAN, LAN, SPPNs, DECCs, compute, storage, and telecommunications.
- Expertise in designing and improving complex enterprise networks.
- Knowledge of DoD security requirements for network infrastructure.
- Experience with system hardening and DoD STIG implementation.
- Experience with reporting and business applications like Power BI, SharePoint, SQL.
