Your role and responsibilities

Under the direction of the MV Drives Service Manager, the MV Drives technical support will provide onsite and offsite support and expertise in response to site work requests, calls, and emails regarding installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and programming questions related to ABB Medium Voltage drives and systems. The role involves timely execution of actions based on the specific circumstances. The work model for the role is: Remote #LI-Remote. This position contributes to the Motion division and is mainly accountable to:

  • Provide technical support for complex problems and act as a liaison with other departments.
  • Perform installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair of ABB Medium Voltage (MV) Variable Frequency Drives (VFD).
  • Investigate problems and initiate effective solutions independently.
  • Coordinate activities with related groups to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Contribute feedback on product quality issues to reduce warranty costs.
  • Prepare and document work, spare parts, tools, and equipment testing.
  • Update case management systems and installed base databases with detailed reports.
  • Coach colleagues, departments, and customers with technical guidance.
  • Communicate effectively with management, customers, vendors, and employees.
Qualifications for the role
  • Associate’s degree with 7 years relevant experience, or High School Diploma with 9 years relevant experience, or military education/experience. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field with 5 years relevant experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to interpret circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams, manuals, and specifications.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to provide support during evenings and weekends on a rotating schedule.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s in electrical engineering, experience with MV Drives, knowledge of power electronics, motors, transformers, switch gears, and communication protocols.
  • Work environment involves exposure to mechanical parts, heights, weather, electrical hazards, noise, and physical activity including standing, walking, and manual manipulation of tools.
