CAI Cox Automotive Corp Svcs., LLC is seeking a Senior Mobile Trailer Repair Technician – DOT Management Level (Individual Contributor) in the United States. The role is predominantly field-based with 100% travel and variable shifts, requiring residence in the specified region.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED plus 5 years of related experience or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • DOT pre-employment background screening and DOT physical required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform PM, DOT inspections, and repairs on trailers in field.
  • Diagnose and repair trailer systems including brakes, panels, and engines.
  • Use tools and test instruments, document RO with iOS and TRAIT app.
  • Complete DOT forms promptly and accurately.
  • Manage parts inventory and service truck upkeep.
  • Respond to dispatched service requests and provide customer updates.
  • Mentor Mobile Trailer Technicians I & II and aid complex repairs.
  • Maintain productivity and adhere to safe work practices.

Job Summary

Senior Mobile Trailer Repair Technician – DOT Management Level (Individual Contributor)

Location: Requires residence in the specified city, state, or region. Remote work is allowable but the position is primarily field based. 100% travel required, Variable shift.

Compensation

Hourly base pay: $29.38 – $44.09 per hour, varying by location and candidate qualifications. Additional compensation may include commission and incentive programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on trailers and equipment in a mobile/field environment.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer systems—including aluminum panels, chem‑lite, brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacements of panels, body, and framework.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, jacks, and electronic test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Document all work on Repair Orders (RO) via company‑issued iOS devices and the TRAIT application, including uploading photos, parts used, and findings.
  • Complete DOT forms and all required documentation promptly and accurately.
  • Manage parts inventory, reconcile vehicle equipment, and maintain the company‑issued service truck.
  • Respond to call‑center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
  • Provide technical guidance to Mobile Trailer Technicians I & II, perform advanced diagnostics, and triage complex repairs.
  • Maintain high productivity, meet standard repair times, and manage daily schedules independently.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and management, providing estimates, approvals, and updates.
  • Comply with all safety, health, environmental, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED plus 5 years of related experience (equivalent combinations of education and experience accepted).
  • Valid driver’s license, driver qualification file, and safe driving record.
  • Must complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or current DOT medical card with >4 months validity).
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Availability for 100% travel and variable shifts.
  • Must possess and supply hand tools necessary for job duties; OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification, ASE 608/609 certification, CDL‑A license (required). Desired certifications include ASE T4 (Brakes), ASE T5 (Suspension), ASE T6 (Electrical & Electronic Systems), and ASE T7 (HVAC). Obtained within 18 months is preferred.

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods; capable of moderate heavy labor and repetitive tasks.
  • Effective two‑way communication with customers and team members.
  • Logical reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and make recommendations.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic instruments and electronic tools.
