Overview

Cox Fleet provides on-site mobile maintenance and repair services for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. We operate nationwide with 50+ service centers and a 24/7 in-house call center, offering accident repair, painting, refurbishment, and heavy mechanical repair, along with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.

JOB SUMMARY

To support growth of the company, Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Mobile Trailer Technician II to join our team. This is a dedicated on-site position (not on-call roadside) with responsibilities including certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other tasks such as trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework. Work is performed at the customer site. The Mobile Trailer Technician II can perform more advanced repairs under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Trailer Technician or higher, assists senior technicians, and continues to learn advanced mechanical skills. A successful Mobile Trailer Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high-level performance metrics.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on various trailers and equipment with little or no supervision.
• Document according to company standards and upload photos of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using an iOS device and the TRAIT application.
• Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailers and equipment, including trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
• Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components.
• Follow safe operating practices and procedures.
• Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
• Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
• Apply knowledge gained through formal training or on-the-job experience to perform the job; understand and evaluate technical information related to the job.
• Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
• Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work-related activities and time allocations.
• Demonstrate integrity, honesty, confidentiality, and adherence to ethical and professional standards.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs in a mobile/field environment.
• Respond to call center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
• Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
• Work with a high degree of independence and manage daily schedule.
• Maintain productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
• Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
• Communicate with management and support teams to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
• Perform work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and regulations (OSHA, EPA, and DOT).
• Complete all required safety training and establish good relationships with customers and vendors.
• Maintain the company-issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
• Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures; stay up to date on safety protocols.
• Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer equipment and systems (brakes, air lines, pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and body/framework).
• Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate/consider alternatives.
• Inspect, test, and diagnose defective equipment using appropriate instruments.
• Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (Trailers). The right candidate could also have other combinations such as higher education or certifications in related disciplines; or 5 years’ experience in a related field.
• Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
• OEM training and certifications are preferred.
• Participate in and complete all required company training.
• Compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations; able to pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical.
• Current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical; if four months or less remain, a DOT physical is required.
• Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations.
• Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
• Class CDL C License required.
