Job Summary

We are hiring a Sr. Mobile Trailer Technician to support company growth. This dedicated on‑site role focuses on performing certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, and various other duties such as aluminum and chem‑lite work, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and panel replacement. The technician works at customer sites, provides advanced diagnostics and triage, and functions as a consultant on the customer's behalf.

Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on trailers and equipment in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various trailer equipment and systems, including aluminum and chem‑lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
  • Document work according to company standards, upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings observed on Repair Orders (RO) using a company‑issued iOS device and proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Always follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
  • Apply knowledge acquired through formal training or on‑the‑job experience to perform job tasks; evaluate technical information related to the job.
  • Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
  • Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to ethical and professional standards.
  • Respond to call‑center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
  • Work independently and manage daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain repair estimate approvals, purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Participate in and complete all company‑required safety training.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with assigned customers and vendors; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and perform repairs on trailer equipment and systems (aluminum and chem‑lite, brakes, air lines, pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, panel replacement).
  • Identify problems, evaluate alternatives using sound judgment, and make recommendations.
  • Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics and support Technicians I & II in inventory reconciliation.
  • Advise Technicians I & II on technical issues and perform advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED with 5 years’ experience in a related field (alternative combinations accepted: a higher degree or certification plus 3 years, or 7 years of experience).
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
  • OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • Participate in and complete all company‑required training.
  • Must successfully complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or submit a current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining).
  • Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
  • Safe drivers needed; valid driver’s license required. Ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
Preferred Certifications
  • A.S.E. T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, including design, usage, repair, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of implications of new information for current and future problem‑solving and decision‑making.
  • Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
  • Ability to exert oneself physically over long periods without tiring, including repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to accurately judge distances between objects.
  • Ability to communicate information succinctly and organize thoughts; effective two‑way communication.
  • Ability to determine the type of tools and equipment needed.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches.
