Job description

Job Summary

To support the growth of the company, Cox Fleet is hiring a Sr. Mobile Trailer Technician. This dedicated on‑site position requires performing DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light and advanced repairs, and other duties such as aluminum and chem‑lite work, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, panel replacement, body and framework. Work is performed at the customer’s site. The Sr. Mobile Trailer Technician is heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs, serves as a consultant on the customer’s behalf, and must comply with all company policies and performance metrics.

Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on trailers and equipment in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems, including aluminum and chem‑lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
  • Document work according to company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and all findings on Repair Orders (RO) using the company‑issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
  • Manage parts inventory, reconcile on the company‑issued service truck, and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
  • Apply knowledge gained through formal training or on‑the‑job experience to perform the job; work with, understand, and evaluate technical information related to the job.
  • Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
  • Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to ethical and professional standards.
  • Respond to call‑center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
  • Work independently, managing own daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
  • Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Participate in all company‑required safety training.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers and vendors; communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and perform repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems, including but not limited to aluminum and chem‑lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, panel replacement, body, and framework.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics and support Mobile Trailer Technicians I & II in inventory reconciliation and technical issues.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs by Mobile Trailer Technicians I & II.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and 5 years of experience in a related field (or an equivalent combination such as a college degree/certification beyond the HS diploma and 3 years of experience, or 7 years of experience in a related field).
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform job duties.
  • OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • Complete all company‑required training.
  • Pass a DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical (or provide a valid DOT medical card with at least four months remaining).
  • Be at least 21 years old and possess a valid driver’s license; maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Safe driver required.
Required Certifications (to be obtained within 18 months)
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification
  • ASE 608/609 certification*
  • CDL-A License
Preferred Certifications
  • ASE T4 (Brakes) certification
  • ASE T5 (Suspension) certification
  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) certification
  • ASE T7 (HVAC) certification
Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to apply new information for problem solving and decision making.
  • Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; ability to perform moderate to heavy labor.
  • Ability to judge distances accurately.
  • Ability to communicate information succinctly and organize it; engage in effective two‑way communication.
  • Ability to determine required tools and equipment.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
Compensation

Hourly pay rate is in the range of $29.38-44.09 per hour. The base rate may vary based on location and candidate qualifications. The position may be eligible for additional compensation such as commission or incentive programs.
