We develop CodeQL and Copilot Autofix, engines that power GitHub's code scanning product, used daily by hundreds of thousands of developers and projects.

• CodeQL is GitHub's semantic code analysis engine that uses advanced static analysis to detect security vulnerabilities and errors across multiple languages including C/C++, C#, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Kotlin, Python, Ruby, and Swift.

• Copilot Autofix is an LLM-powered engine that suggests fixes for code scanning alerts, enabling developers to remediate issues quickly.

Responsibilities

We seek a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a distributed team focused on expanding CodeQL. You will oversee areas such as:

• Code analysis: Maintaining multi-language detection support, building source code extractors, writing queries in CodeQL, ensuring quality of autofix suggestions, and experimenting with LLM detection engines.

• Foundations: Developing QL, the query language for CodeQL, and optimizing its compiler and engine for scalability.

• Experiences: Developing the CodeQL CLI and integrations like GitHub Actions and IDE extensions.

You will coach and develop your team, influence product and technical direction, collaborate with stakeholders, and foster a culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required:

• 6+ years in software engineering or a related field, with experience in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
• Or an associate's degree + 5+ years, bachelor's + 4+ years, master's + 2+ years, or a doctorate in a related field with relevant experience.
• Ability to work East Coast hours.
• 1+ year of people management experience.
• 2+ years in areas like software security, developer tools, or ML applied to source code.

Preferred:

• Excellent communication skills.
• Experience leading distributed teams across multiple time zones.
• Knowledge of compiler design, program analysis, language design, logic programming, or CI/CD integrations.

Compensation Range

The salary range is USD $112,800 - $299,300 per year, depending on location and experience. Benefits include bonuses, stock, and incentives.
