About this role

The (Sr) Medical Science Liaison role is a part of US Medical Affairs, a strategic partner within Biogen, that helps inform medical practice across our therapeutic areas and pipeline to improve meaningful patient outcomes. The MSL enables critical stakeholder engagement with Key Medical Experts (KMEs) and other healthcare professionals (HCPs) so they understand the clinical and scientific narrative for Biogen’s therapies. Biogen’s priority is to foster a diverse and inclusive workforce – representing age, gender, sexual identity, race, ethnicity, Veterans, and people with disabilities – that reflects the communities where we operate and the patients we serve.

This territory will cover Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. The successful candidate must reside within the boundaries of the territory.

What You Will Do

  • Engage with KMEs and HCPs to increase confidence in clinical decisions related to disease and Biogen’s products, aiming to improve patient care.
  • Build deep, strategic, long-term relationships with internal and external stakeholders, positioning as a partner rather than just a transactional contact.
  • Respond promptly, engage frequently, and serve as a solutions-driven conduit to medical community leaders.
  • Participate in projects aligned with US Medical strategy, objectives, and tactics.
  • Achieve medical excellence performance goals, standards, and measurements, and report insights using Veeva with high consistency and accuracy.

Who You Are

You are a scientific or clinical professional passionate about science and healthcare, with curiosity about medical and business opportunities. You prioritize patients, payers, and physicians, collaborating to solve scientific and business challenges.

Required Skills

  • Advanced Scientific or Clinical degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, DNP).
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Medical Science Liaison or similar role for MSL consideration.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience for Sr MSL consideration.
  • Reside within Pennsylvania / Great Lakes territory.
  • Effective communication skills, confident and credible.
  • Comfortable with technology and eager to learn new tools.
  • Accountability to goals, metrics, and KPIs.
  • Adherence to industry ethics and rules.
  • Willing to travel at least 60%, including overnight and occasional weekend travel.
  • At least 18 years old, with a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred Skills & Therapeutic Area Expertise

  • Experience in Rare Disease, ALS, Friedreich Ataxia, or Spinal Muscular Atrophy is strongly preferred.

The base salary range for this position is $162,000 - $217,000, with potential incentives including bonuses and equity. Biogen offers comprehensive benefits supporting physical, financial, emotional, and social well-being, such as wellness programs, insurance, paid time off, parental leave, 401(k), stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
