About this role

The (Sr) Medical Science Liaison role is a part of US Medical Affairs, a strategic partner within Biogen, that helps inform medical practice across our therapeutic areas and pipeline to improve meaningful patient outcomes. The MSL enables critical stakeholder engagement with Key Medical Experts (KMEs) and other healthcare professionals (HCPs) so they understand the clinical and scientific narrative for Biogen’s therapies. This territory will cover Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. The successful candidate must reside within the boundaries of the territory.

What You Will Do

  • Build deep, strategic, long-term relationships with internal & external stakeholders, being viewed as a partner rather than transactional.
  • Engage with Key Medical Experts (KMEs) and healthcare professionals (HCPs) to increase confidence in clinical decisions related to disease states and Biogen’s products.
  • Be responsive, engage often, and serve as a solutions-driven conduit to medical community leaders.
  • Participate in projects and initiatives aligned with US Medical strategy, objectives, and tactics.
  • Achieve medical excellence performance goals, standards, and measurements, including capturing and reporting medical insights using Veeva with high accuracy to inform strategies.

Who You Are

You are a scientific or clinical professional with a passion for science and deep knowledge. You are curious about healthcare and business opportunities, and you prioritize patients, payers, and physicians in your work, collaborating to solve scientific and business challenges.

Required Skills

  • Advanced Scientific or Clinical degree; Doctoral (MD, PhD, PharmD, DNP) level required.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Medical Science Liaison or similar role within the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry for MSL consideration.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience for Sr MSL consideration.
  • Reside in Pennsylvania / Great Lakes territory (Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan).
  • Effective communication skills; confident, credible, and empathetic listening and responding.
  • Comfortable with technology and eager to learn new tools and systems.
  • Reliable in delivering against goals, motivated to meet/exceed KPIs, and able to view metrics positively.
  • Committed to ethical practices and following industry rules.
  • Willing to travel at least 60%, including overnight and occasional weekend travel, assuming health concerns are managed.
  • Must be 18+ with a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record, and able to operate company leased or rental vehicles.

Preferred Skills & Therapeutic Area Specific Skills

  • Clinical experience and expertise in Rare Disease, ALS, Friedreich Ataxia, and/or Spinal Muscular Atrophy are strongly preferred.

The base salary range is $162,000 - $217,000, determined by skills, experience, location, and internal factors. Employees are eligible for short- and long-term incentives, including bonuses and equity.
