Qualifications

The Senior Medical Assistant (MA) participates in providing patient care at the appropriate skill level. They are responsible for delivering a standard of care that meets or exceeds that of a reasonably competent Medical Assistant. The Senior MA assists in training and orienting other MA staff. Approximately 25% of their time is dedicated to clinic-specific initiatives that drive process and metrics improvements, enhancing leadership skills. The Senior MA performs all duties of a Medical Assistant within their scope of practice, under the supervision of a provider (TX) or physician (FL).

This role involves organizing the clinical environment and supporting patient care, including assisting physicians and nursing staff, and performing procedures listed under Job Functions below. The Senior MA helps identify patient needs, communicates data to the provider or clinical team, and ensures policy adherence including infection control and confidentiality.

Primary Responsibilities:
  1. Perform duties at an expert level within the Medical Assistant scope, including operating diagnostic equipment, wound care, specimen collection, medication administration, EKGs, and equipment sterilization.
  2. Dedicate 25% of time to clinic metrics/projects/initiatives to support workflow and process improvements.
  3. Accurately document patient care in medical records and alert leadership to documentation errors.
  4. Train and mentor other MAs, assisting with documentation and performance improvement.
  5. Promote a positive work environment and team culture.
  6. Coordinate patient care as directed by providers and policies.
  7. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  8. Organize exam and treatment rooms, manage supplies, and ensure infection prevention.
  9. Conduct intake screening, support standard delegation of orders, and perform related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current BLS certification
  • 3+ years as a certified MA or 5+ years combined experience (2+ years certified)
  • Proficiency in electronic health records and medical terminology
  • Mastery of ICD-10 and CPT coding
  • Mentoring ability, calmness in emergencies, intermediate Excel skills, excellent communication and customer service skills, adaptability
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for TB, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Bilingual skills
Physical & Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull >35 lbs with assistance
  • Stand for extended periods
  • Operate equipment with fine motor skills
  • Follow instructions and solve problems logically
  • Exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids
  • Discriminate shades of color for testing

The hourly pay range is $16.88 to $33.22, based on full-time employment, experience, and other factors. Benefits include a comprehensive package, incentives, stock options, and 401k.
