McKinnell McKinnell & Taylor Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 8–10 years of experience and a PE license to join our Massachusetts-based team.

You will lead mechanical design, manage junior staff, perform energy modeling, calculations, field surveys, and coordinate with other disciplines, using AutoCAD or Revit and RIB SpecLink.

Qualifications

  • Requires licensed PE and 8–10 years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and coordinating documents.
  • Proficiency with energy modeling and project documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage junior staff, designers, and drafters to meet deadlines.
  • Ensure high quality work and coordinated project documents.
  • Perform energy modeling and related paperwork (Equest, LCCA, ECCS, ECC EZ).
  • Mentor junior staff for career development.
  • Maintain NCEES Record and mechanical PE registration in MA, NH, CT, RI.
  • Develop mechanical solutions meeting code and client needs.
  • Perform field surveys of existing conditions.
  • Draft investigative surveys and feasibility reports for mechanical work.
  • Perform load calculations using engineering best practices.
  • Conceptualize, design, and oversee construction of building mechanical systems.
  • Lead Designers and drafters in creating the project drawing set.
  • Develop technical specifications for HVAC front end; use SpecLink software.
  • Coordinate design with architectural, civil, electrical, and fire protection engineers.
  • Work with Project Manager to provide construction administration services for mechanical work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Management Duties:

  • Ensure junior staff, designers, and drafters meet established deadlines.
  • Ensure a high quality of work and make sure all direction has been followed and coordinated throughout the project documents.
  • Energy modeling and paperwork responsibilities including Equest, LCCA, ECCS, ECC EZ.
  • Mentor junior staff to develop their individual skills for career development.

Primary Duties:

  • Maintain a NCEES Record and mechanical Professional Engineering registration in the states where MMT does business, currently MA, NH, CT, and RI.
  • Develop mechanical engineering solutions that meet code requirements and serve the client’s needs.
  • Perform field surveys of existing conditions.
  • Draft investigative surveys and feasibility reports for mechanical scopes of work.
  • Perform load calculations using engineering best practices.
  • Conceptualize, design, and oversee construction of building mechanical systems, including limited plumbing and fire protection.
  • Lead Designers and draftspersons in the creation of the project drawing set.
  • Develop technical specifications for all projects that include HVAC design and the front end in all mechanical-only projects. MMT uses RIB SpecLink software.
  • Coordinate design with other disciplines including architectural and civil, electrical, and fire protection engineers.
  • Working with the Project Manager to provide construction administration services for mechanical work

Secondary Duties:

  • Coordinate with the CAD Manager to maintain an up-to-date Mechanical CAD detail library.
  • Coordinate with the Office Manager to ensure the office has up-to-date mechanical engineering resources such as software, codes, references, etc.
