Job summary

Nortek Air Solutions is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the conceptualization, design, and development of new HVAC products. The role emphasizes hands-on engineering, rigorous design reviews, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to meet performance and cost targets.

Applicants should have a BS in Mechanical/Aerospace engineering, 5+ years of product design experience, and proven skills in CAD, FEA/CFD, and manufacturing processes. Domestic travel may be required.

• 5+ years of proven product design and development experience.
• Experience using FEA or CFD for validation.
• Proficient in 3D CAD software and ability to review drawings.

In this key role, you will be responsible for the conceptualization, design, and development of new products while helping establish new standards of engineering excellence and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct design simulations, prototyping, testing, analyses, and team reviews to ensure designs meet technical, performance, and quality standards
• Drive new product development initiatives from concept through production.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand product requirements and translate them into innovative design solutions.
• Apply technical expertise and a strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes to optimize product designs for performance, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive continuous improvement in product design and development processes.
• Review and approve technical drawings, including structural calculations and steel/aluminum welding specifications.
• Occasional travel may be required within North America (up to 1 or 2 times per year)

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of proven experience in product design and development.
• Experience using simulation and validation tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
• Strong engineering aptitude with a focus on mechanical system design in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficient with Engineering 3D CAD software.
• Ability to review and approve technical drawings and engineering calculations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to tackle complex design challenges.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Autodesk Inventor experience, including design automation and Vault experience, preferred.
• Experience with ANSYS Mechanical Enterprise or CFD Premium (Fluent).
• Experience in sheet metal design.
• Knowledge of innovative product development processes and project management methodologies.
• Familiarity with steel and aluminum fabrication and welding practices.
• Working knowledge of HVAC systems and/or centrifugal fans.
