Job summary

Diamond Foundry is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design across equipment and facility systems in South San Francisco. You will design, test, and optimize high-volume vacuum manufacturing systems, prototype new functions, and coordinate with suppliers to meet budgets and schedules.

Job description

Senior Mechanical Engineer – South San Francisco

We are looking for an ambitious senior mechanical engineer to lead the design of equipment and facility systems across multiple engineering disciplines. This position is based in South San Francisco.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, test, and optimize systems for high‑volume vacuum manufacturing equipment.
  • Prototype and integrate new system functions to enhance existing equipment.
  • Manage multiple suppliers to construct parts and assemblies on time and within budget.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of applicable engineering design and prototyping experience.
  • Experience in 2D and 3D CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks), PDM/PLM systems, equipment design (frames, sheet metal, machine parts, piping).
  • Knowledge of facilities systems and methods (piping, gas systems, compressed air, etc.) and design of robust manufacturing facilities (layout, material flow, automation).
  • Strong analytical skills to investigate and solve problems across multiple systems.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Use appropriate PPE.
  • Sit, stand for long periods, walk, grasp, reach, lift, bend, twist, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, talk, hear, see, use fine finger manipulation, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Use ladders or stairs.
  • Use foot controls or drive.
  • Lift, carry, and push/pull up to 50 pounds.
