Job summary

GFT is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer in New York, NY to lead HVAC and energy‑efficient mechanical designs across diverse projects, including K‑12, higher ed, federal, aviation, food & beverage, and transportation. You will focus on energy‑efficient power systems, HVAC, plumbing, and building automation to deliver sustainable building solutions.

The ideal candidate holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, a P.E.

Qualifications

• B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering (ABET accredited)
• P.E. license
• 10+ years of independent HVAC design experience
• 5+ years of energy modeling and heat-load software experience
• Strong knowledge of psychrometrics, energy codes and building standards
• Proficiency with DDC controls and building automation

• Lead mechanical designs for HVAC, energy systems and building automation across diverse portfolios
• Provide technical direction to designers and technicians

Sr. Mechanical Engineer – GFT

Location: New York, NY

Employment Status: Full-Time

Salary Range: $150,000 – $190,000 (dependent on experience and location)

Core Business Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

What You Will Do

Lead mechanical designs for a diverse portfolio spanning K‑12, higher education, federal, aviation, food & beverage, and transportation projects. Focus on energy‑efficient power systems, HVAC, plumbing, and building automation to create sustainable building solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Survey and study building mechanical equipment and systems.
• Design HVAC systems, building automation systems, and plumbing.
• Provide technical direction to mechanical designers and technicians.
• Write progress reports and project specifications.
• Manage projects and proactively identify and resolve problems.
• Coordinate and verify project deliverables.
• Participate in business development meetings with prospective clients, proposal preparation and delivery, and general client interaction.

What You Will Bring

• B.S. or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
• P.E. license.
• 10+ years of independent design experience for HVAC systems in new and renovated facilities, including hydronic and steam boiler plants, chiller plants, terminal unit systems, distribution systems, and control systems.
• 5+ years of experience using energy modeling and heat‑load software.
• Strong understanding of psychometrics, mechanical building codes, energy codes, and construction standards.
• Proficiency with DDC controls, controls design, and operation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Project Management experience.
• Revit experience with Architectural/MEP packages and BIM 360.
• Plumbing experience.
