Job summary

Aperture is seeking a senior engineer to lead and manage engineering teams in Burlington, MA. The role focuses on electrical, HVAC controls, and building automation systems within high-visibility environments, with travel required.

Required are a B.S. in engineering and a PE license with extensive experience in engineering leadership, safety standards, and industry codes. The position offers a hybrid work schedule and a path to drive critical projects across diverse sectors.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field; ten years of experience or equivalent combination.
• PE license with ability to obtain additional state licenses as needed.
• Strong understanding of HVAC equipment and building automation systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of electrical safety standards and industry codes (ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA, UL).
• Experience leading and managing teams of engineers (minimum 4 years).
• Experience in high-visibility environments (data centers, hospitals, oil & gas, manufacturing).

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret electrical, control, and building operation diagrams.
• Define project scope and specifications based on customer needs.
• Manage scope relative to site specifics and customer requirements.
• Review control panel BOMs, system SOOs, and wiring diagrams for quality control.
• Oversee control logic diagrams for PLC/DC systems.
• Review cables, routing plans and schedules.
• Perform inspections, testing, and commissioning of facility systems and deliverables.

Requirements

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, HVAC, or other related engineering degrees as well as ten (10) years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• PE license with ability to obtain other states as needed (NCEES Record is a plus)
• Good understanding and technical knowledge of HVAC equipment and systems and of access to building automation systems.
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills including, but not limited to, listening effectively, and soliciting input from others.
• Knowledge of electrical safety standards and practices.
• Knowledge of industry codes and standards: ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA, UL, etc.
• Experience with at least one of the following: Mechanical, Electrical, or Control systems.
• Experience working in high visibility environments such as Data Centers, Hospitals, Oil & Gas, or Manufacturing Industries.
• Demonstrated success in leading and managing teams of engineers, preferably in a Controls, Mechanical or Electrical construction environment.
• Minimum 4 years of managing a highly skilled team.
• Organization and problem‑solving skills with a drive for results and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
• Must possess ability to build peer relationships as well as work independently.
• Must be able to operate with little to no supervision.
• Willing to travel domestically.

Responsibilities

• Strong writing skills, able to articulate thoughts clearly and concisely.
• Understanding of electrical diagrams, control diagrams, building operations, control circuits, industrial HVAC and controller I/Os.
• Ability to ascertain customer needs to help develop project scope and specifications.
• Ability to manage scope of work relative to the site specifics and customer needs.
• Ability to read and interpret specifications and implement those specifications as they apply the work environment.
• Review and quality control of control panel BOMs.
• Review and quality control of systems SOOs.
• Review and quality control for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes. Included in the drawings are the general arrangement, internal layout, schematics and interconnection and wire diagrams.
• Review and quality control of logic diagrams in the International Automation format for complex logic devices such as Programmable Logical Controller and Distributed Control System.
• Review and quality control of cables, routing plans and schedules.
• Performing inspections, testing, and commissioning of the facility systems. Producing quality deliverables.

• The ability to sit at a desk up to 80% of the time.

• The ability to be confined in a small area, such as a cubicle.
• The ability to operate phones and computers.
• The ability to travel via airplanes as needed.
• Must be able to work at heights and on a ladder.
